Forgive the caps but this is major news for fans of that classic cartoon
"Simon In The Land of Chalk Drawings" ("Well, you know my name is
Simon and the things I draw come true..."). I've never seen it listed so I'm
assuming this is new to the fall lineup on TVO's *daily* schedule, yeah!
Sorry we missed it yesterday but it's been insane around here getting
ready for school. Here's the full half hour info from TVO (www.tvo.org/eng/)
for tapers (it's only a 5-minute cartoon), all time EST:

Monday:

Simon In The Land Of Chalk Drawings 10:32 AM
Yoho Ahoy 10:30 AM
Polka Dot Shorts 10:42 AM
The Adventures of Spot 10:50 AM
A Child's Dream - Series 1 10:55 AM

Tuesday:

Simon In The Land Of Chalk Drawings 10:33 AM
Yoho Ahoy 10:30 AM

The Adventures of Spot 10:54 AM

Wed - Friday:

You mean to tell me that this is a real show?!?! I thought it was just a
character from SNL. Well damn.

That cartoon is the absolute SHITE! I loved it and when Mike Myers started
doing that "stop looking at my bum, you cheeky bum looker you" I would die
laughing.

Thanks for letting us know TD... that was one trippy cartoon

It was a British cartoon with this little boy named Simon who made his own
world of Chalk Drawings. I think Mike Myers was a big fan of this show. I
know I loved it when I was little. They used to play it during Captain
Kangaroo.

Oh no, the SNL character is a parody of this one, which at one point appeared
on "Captain Kangaroo."

Along with "The Toothbrush Family" and "Ludwig"........remember those?

And anybody remembers the religious cartoon, "Jot"?

Thanks for that awesome info, TD! I sure hope they didn't redub the
vocals into North American accents they way they did with Noddy
recently.

Ahh...I remember the good ole days of TVO:

'Simon and The Land Chalk Drawings' - of course everyone here is
probably more familiar with the Mike Myers very loosely related spoof.

'Vision On' - an old British art show that was really cool and hip
(kinda like how 'Electric Company' was to 'Sesame Street'), and
featured a future Dr.Who - Sylvester McCoy

'Readalong' - I haven't seen reruns of this show for years!

'Jeremy' - "I'm a bear called Jeremy, I can do most anything, I can
play and I can sing, little tunes like Do Re Mi"

'Fables of The Green Forest'

'Dr.Snuggles' - what a trippy show, but not as trippy as Global's
'Secret Railroad' if anyone remembers that show!

'Kidsworld' - does anyone even remember this show? Not the same thing
as 'Kids Beat'.

'Polka Dot Door' - the old stuff. Man, that Polkaroo used to get me
so angry! He's always disappear before the guy came back, and it used
to drive me bananas! ;>)

'Read All About It' - this show I studied in Grade 5 back in the early
80's, and we got these really cool photocopies of the episode synopsis
- which we collected each time we watched an episode. I think I have
most of them still stapled together, somewhere...

Then there was a show the name of which I keep forgetting:

A little kid goes finds an old trunk in an abandoned building; he goes
into it trying to hide from some bully; then when he opens it up, he
finds himself back in the 1880's! He meets up with this travelling
salesman named Zachariah and brings him back to the 1970's, and funny
things happen.

I could go on forever about the kids shows I used to love watching,
but I'll probably bore you guys to death.

Thanks for the heads-up Rhonda - I will get my VCR set to record.

Sorry I'm not quoting your message, Molly - Something is wrong with
Deja.

Anywho, I kinda remember watching Captain Kangaroo, but never saw
Simon on it. I don't even think Commander Tom played that show - he
played alot of Warner Bros cartoons and Davey & Goliath. I guess we
can reminisce about Buffalo TV, since I am right across the lake from
you. We've talked about Buffalo 29, and the days when they played
'The Great Space Coaster' and stuff like that.

Do you remember when PBS had the 'Educational Programming' period from
10am till Noon or 1pm? They used to have some cool little shows on
that, like Harriet's Magic Hats, and that news show they played. Alot
of the programs they played were something like 15min long.

Also, do you remember a show called 'Big Blue Marble'. I don't
remember what channel it used to play on. All I remember is at the
beginning, it would show kids from around the world saying 'hello' in
their mother tongues; and at the end, they would also say 'goodbye' in
their mother tongues. I don't remember what the shows were about
though. Who remembers that show?

I remember Readalong and Read All About It. PBS loves Canadian shows. I
can sometimes get TVO on my TV in my bedroom. It's not hooked to cable,
so I can get some interesting stations.

I remember Big Blue Marble and the educational programming on PBS. I was
hooked to these programs. I used to watch these programs when I was sick and
stayed from school. I noticed a lot of programs that came from Canada. My
favorite was "Read All About It". I remember loving to see what would happen
to the kids and that evil Danedan.

Yes - that was one of the shows featured.

Yeah...I vaguely remember the pen pal thingy that they promoted. Back
in the day when snail mail was the only way to write to someone from
another part of the world.

Well, playing 'Simon' is better than nothing, I guess, although I'd
love to see those old ones again. I taped today's episode where Simon
drew some soldiers on his chalkboard, and discovered that something
bad happened in the land of chalk drawings (that usually seems to be
the reasons why he ends up going - something he draws on his chalk
board at home causes some problem in the land of chalk drawings).

The soldiers were rounding up the people and making them do military
drills! LOL! He took his trusty chalk and changed their weapons into
musical instruments and they became something like Sgt.Pepper's
Band... ;>)

Too bad there isn't a cable station that caters to people who want to
see old educational kids shows from the 70's and early 80's. I'd
subscribe to a station like that.

Hey, Molly, do you remember that show called 'All About You'? It had
that woman with that short haircut and she talked about kids' bodies
and how they worked.

And I think we've had many a discussion in this NG about 'Let's All
Sing' with Tony Salentine (I think that's how it was spelt).

I loved Theta the computer. I actually cried when Sam left, because she was my favorite character on
the show. I wonder what happened to the actors on that show? I swear I saw that blonde haired girl
(can't remember the character's name) on some other show.
I remember writing to TVO to see if Read All About It was on video, but they say the shows were
unavailable on video. Darn, I'd love to see them again. :)

I never got around to taping them myself. I think they must have been
shown as recently as 10 years ago on TVO, before they started using
those Kids Show Hosts as links between kids shows. But I wasn't
nostalgic (sp?) for the show at the time, and I didn't think of taping
any of them. I do have the handouts of each episode, however. Since
we followed the show in Grade 5, before each episode, our teacher
handed out the next episode's synopsis (it had text and a hand drawn
picture) which we discussed in class (I think we discussed the episode
and handout after watching it). If and when I find them, I will list
the episode names and a brief synopsis as a message posted to this NG,
Molly.
