I have in front of me a cool Post Card sent to me by the good folks at PBS,
Electric Company and the Children's Television Workshop. It is postdated
at March 17, 1977! (Birmingham Ala., 13 cents postage)

The message is as follows:

Thank you for sharing your cartoons, jokes, letters, and pictures with the
ELECTRIC COMPANY MAGAZINE. Keep up the good work! Write again
soon. signed: Electric company magazine

I friend and I (19 years ago) must have had a copy of the magazine (its
existance I didn't even recall) and sent some artwork in for a contest.

The front of the postcard has the whole EC gang on and around a school bus.
We have Spidey, those five loser hippy-wanna-be singing kids, Crank, Easy
Reader (Morgan Freeman), Janie of the Jungle? sitting on the bus, Fargo
North, Rita Moranno, and that Mexican guy who had the plant who always
attacked him and a Black woman (who I recall but don't know any of her
characters) and she's wearing some funky 70's eye/sunglasses and "I am
Afrikan, here me roar" gold earrings and one hot looking brown 2-piece
leisure suit.

I posted this mostly for general information, as I've never seen anything
like this before. Any thoughts?

My favorite was the parrot with the plumber trying to get in. The bird
keepssaying hello who is it? while the plumber keeps knocking on the
door. The plumber says, " Its the plumber - I'm here to fix the sink.
Finally he gets so mad he passes out & the owner comes home & asks who is
it & the bird says its the plumber - he's here to fix the sink.

I remember that one. Didn't they also have the Blue Hornet? Or
something like that?

My favorite one was the mexican-looking guy singing "Spaghetti
With A Spoon."

My favorite one was the "ly" song where they set up situations and asked how you would
respond, for example
"You're entering a very dark room
And, suddenly, there in the gloom.
Is a VAMPIRE! So how do say goodbye?
Immediately, immediately, immediate L Y!"

There was also a tiger in the library, but I can't remember any more.

That song, as well as the "Silent E" song often heard on The Electric
Company, was written by one Tom Lehrer (who did loads of other
songs, usually heard on Doctor Demento . . .)

Tom Lehrer got his start writing novelty songs back in the 1950's. He was a
regular on the old "That Was the Week That Was" news parody show in the
Sixties.

The song from Electric Company I remember best is "Punctuation". Rita Moreno
and another woman (Irene Cara?) dressed up in Carmen Miranda outfits and
sang it. I don't know if it was one of Lehrer's or not.

This song, as well as the song "Silent E," was written by the
infamous Tom Lehrer, who also penned such irreverent songs (back
in the 50's and 60's) as "The Vatican Rag," and "Poisoning Pigeons
In the Park."

Anyone remember the "Creepy Creature" by the Short Circus? That was a kick
butt song. Anyone have it on tape or .wav files?

The *ly* song was my favorite too-I still can remember it after all these years!

This is my favorite from EC:
My brother's mother is my mother too.
My brother's mother is my mother too.
And if I had another brother,
He would call my mother, mother.
Yes, my brother's mother is my mother too.
