I was a child in the 70s but the scents that bring me back are:
The inside of my grandmother's house (which was recently torn down but I
have some of the wood that gave it it's smell
The inside of the little Baptist church I used to go to when I was small.
It's still there today and it still smells the same. As soon as I walk in
I'm transported back to sunday school in 1975. I could almost still hear
children singing "Jesus Loves Me".
I'd have to say the smell that really brings me back to my childhood is a
Christmas tree. I love that pine smell.
>Herbal shampoo
Yeah. Herbal Essence. I also had a shampoo that was "beer shampoo". It
was in a little bottle shaped like a beer bottle, and it had sort of a
beer-like smell, but it smelled really good. It was pale, looked like
Miller Beer.

The smell of burning plastic always brings me back to playing with my
"Creepy Crawler" and "Strange Change Time Machine".

Hai Karate - I begged my father to get it so I could smell it.
Pomade - for my fathers hair
Baby Oil - for some reason it was used to hold my hair down.
Dippity-Do - my mother used it back then. I think it came in pink and green.
Kool-ade Mix
Play-dough
Rubber swimming pools
Ice Cream Cones straight from the box
Thanks for jogging my memory :-)

Two scents: Oh! De London and Eau De Love.
Also, the distinctive scent of Slickers lipstick and lip gloss.
And, of course, Herbal Essence shampoo!

You guys are real low class. <g> Two words: "English Leather"
Although I must admit I did succumb to Brut in the big green plastic bottle
a few times myself. <g>

I'm surprised nobody mentioned those Earthborn shampoos. The apricot scented
one had me salivating so bad I finally gave in and tasted it. Bad decision!

Yeah, I've seen the new Herbal Essence shampoos. But they don't smell
the same as the original, Prell-green stuff.
And the TV commercials! No comparison! I liked the cartooney,
trippy, hippie early 70s ad (I can still hear the sitar) for Herbal
Essence.
The new ad for new Herbal Essence is, like, a one-note riff on *that*
scene in "When Harry Met Sally". Then they made it even worse by
putting Dr. Ruth in it.

I remember those. The scents fior me --Aramis,Polo and Halston colognes. A
green apple shampoo(I can't remember the name)
Love's Baby Soft! (They only seem to sell it around Xmas time now, and I
finally got some this year... I feel like I'm twelve again!)

You know, I have one of those really sensitive senses of smell, and smells
are very evocative. I can almost SMELL herbal essence, and the sicky-sweet
scent of Slickers lip gloss, somehow mixed with the scent of Love's baby
Soft, cigarette and marijuana smoke. And the Baby powder scent of Pssssst!
a dry shampoo; Lemon up shampoo; everyNight Strawberry shampoo;and the
coconut scent of Hawaiian tropic tanning lotion.

I got some for my nine year old daughter for christmas. Man, I really was 12
again. I remember wearing Sweet Honesty too!! I bet it would give me a
headache if I wore it today!! I cant remember the name of the lip gloss but
maybe someone else can. It was in a glass tube with a roller ball, maybe two
inches long and it had Coke and root beer and Dr. Pepper too I think. The
ones mentioned earlier are not ringing a bell. I think it was a Maybeline
product or maybe Bonne Bell. EVERYONE had it and we were putting it on all day
long!!

Pink Pearl Eraser! I have one in my desk in my office and I get it out

I got one to. Sits right on my monitor at work. I take a snort now and
then.
Art Gum erasers are also pretty good.
I loved the smell of Earthborn Apricot shampoo until the cap came off of the
bottle inside my gym bag. That smell would NEVER go away and even my
basketball uniform would smell like it when I put it on!

Oohhh...you just reminded me of my all-time favorite 70s
smell... "Bain de Soleil" suntan lotion. They still make it
but it isn't the same anymore. It used to be this really bright
nuclear orange color, and the smell...mmmmmmmmmmmm.... :)
I used to sneak it out of my mother's cupboard just so I
could *sniff* it! I would love to find it again...

I remember this well! These compacts were popular when I was in high school
(late '70's).

"Tabu," actually. It's my mother's favorite, and she still
uses it.
My dad's favorite is "Jade East"...he thought it wasn't
available anymore, and was pleased when I found him a
bottle. :)

Ah, the old Herbal Essence. I remember sitting on the lawn at my high school with my
boyfriend. He was gazing at me adoringly (as only a 15 year old can). He put his
fingers next to my face and stroked my hair. He leaned over and said, "Gosh. Your
hair smells just like a freshly mown lawn."I was bitten by the love bug. For at least
seven months, anyway.
Forget the orgasm campaign. Bring back that smell!

My HS GF sprayed it in her waist-length hair. A VERY memorable aroma. I saw her
a year ago after 23 years and she still had it in there. <g>

i remember love's baby soft very well....
as i recall, there was "regular", the lemon one you mentioned, i also had a
jasmine scented one (purple cap) and a rain scent (blue cap)
others: Emeraude
anything musk
I specifically remember one that's still being sold today as the only scent my
friends and I would wear - Revlon's Charlie. Remember the "Charlie girl"
jingle?
And what about Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo and conditioner?

Gee, because it's mixed with cigarettes, cheap booze, cigars, BO and aftershave?
Some of the perfumes I still remember: jontue, love's fresh lemon (I used
it for a while, I like lemon) and that cinnamon gum everyone loved (but I
hated, eww).
Big Red?
That was my favorite!! (if that's the one you mean)

Here's a test: Chew some Big Red for a little while and then take a drink of
Diet Coke. NASTY! It's like your taste buds have been numbed by the gum.
