I'm listening to a 70s compilation CD this morning, and it has Gregg Allman's
"Midnight Rider," a nice song. It made me think of how Gregg and Cher were,
briefly, husband and wife, long enough to sire a young Allman, Elijah, who,
as I recently posted, is now a Marilyn Manson wannabe out in Los Angeles.
But back to Gregg and Cher, who knows what, if anything, they had in common
(certainly not musical skills or interests).

Anyway, what were some of the other more interesting celebrity marriages,
or couples, of the 70s? Burt Reynolds and Dinah Shore come to mind. So does
Rock Hudson and Jim Neighbors, although that was merely a rumour.

Here's one: Shirley Jones and Marty Ingels, who (despite having separated at
one point) are stll together. And didn't Sammy Davis Jr. date Anita Ekberg for
awhile, or was that the '60s?

He was married(?) to a very white, very blonde woman named Mae Britt. This
may be what you are thinking of. Certain of his friends felt a lot of heat
due to this and word was sent down to him that he needed to break up with
this woman to #1 keep his career, and #2 to keep his life. The message came
to him from the Mafia. This story was told by several stool pigeons in the
early '60s.

Speaking of which, did any of you ever see the episode of The Andy Griffith
Show where Barney is sitting there reading a tabloid-style newspaper whose
headline reads, "The Truth About Rock Hudson"?

Couldn't you just see Barney's eyes bugging out and his jaw dropping as he
is reading this?

What always comes to my mind about celeb hitchin' in '70s is the second
pairing of Natalie Wood and her ex-husband Robert Walker.

Burt Reynolds and Dinah Shore were never married. He *nearly* married Sally
Fields. Didn't happen. I think Rod Stewart and Alana Hamilton were an
interesting pair. Not sure if that was a 70's celeb hookup. Farrah Fawcett
and Lee Majors. Royal wedding--Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips
1973..and I can't leave out the most famous wedding of the 70's--Rhoda and
Joe Gerard's nuptuals on "Rhoda." I can recite the whole episode. That's
sick, I know....

Not memorable seeing as many people *still* don't know but how's
this for a weird celeb matchup: Peter Wolf (J. Geils Band) and Faye
Dunaway were married from 1974 - 1979. Mind boggling!

You know, now that I think of it, I remember I once had a Peter Wolf sighting
in the Italian North End of Boston. This was back in the late 70s, and it
was during some very festive street fair at night; I think he was eating
a calzone at the time. He's a tall drink of water, for sure, and thus really
stood out in a crowd.

On the subject of rock marriages/couplings of the 70s, there are a number
who come to mind. There was David Bowie and Angela Bowie, who were a couple
at the time that David announced to the press that they were both bi; at
around the same time, Mick Jagger wrote the song "Angie," so apparently there
was something going on between them; yet, years later, Angie claimed she
came home one day and found Mick and David in bed together.

Also, and I think they have been mentioned, James Taylor and Carly Simon,
who sounded really good singing together.

There was also Steven Tyler and Bebe Buell (the mother of Liv); she and Todd
Rundgren were together at one point; I think she might have left him for
Steven Tyler, not unlike the way Patti Harrison left George for Eric Clapton
(and the way Cher left Gregg Allman for Gene Simmons (or was it that young
pizza maker), who then dumped Cher to be with Diana Ross (or was it the other
way around), and not unlike the way Anita Pallenberg left Brian Jones for
Keith Richard. Then of course there are the various marriages around which
Fleetwood Mac were organized. And didn't one of the Eagles briefly go out
with Ronald Reagan's daughter Patti? Also, Kate McGarrigle of the singing
McGarrigle sisters was married to Loudon Wainwright, and they sired Rufus,
whose a pretty good musician in his own right.

In punk/new wave, Patti Smith and Robert Maplethorpe were an item, but then
he decided to just be with guys, and she moved on to Sam Sheppard, Tom Verlaine,
and Fred Smith of the MC5 (they married). Deborah Harry and Iggy Pop apparently
had a fling, as did, apparently, Patti Smith and Paul Simonon of The Clash.
Everyone knows about Sid and Nancy, though apparently Sid was bi, as were
various members of The Damned and other punk bands. Boy George and the Culture
Club drummer were an item, but their breakup also lead to Culture Club's
breakup. Nick Lowe married Carlene Carter, daughter of Johnny Cash and June
Carter.

Does anyone know if Peaches and Herb ("Reunited") were a couple?

There were at least three or four "Peaches" over the years; which one are

Oh, didn't know that. I guess I was referring to the one who sang on the
recording of "Reunited." I wonder which "Peaches" she was?

I'm pissed. Man I wanta hurt something. After the bombing we only had 1 tv
station (not having cable) WCBS Channel 2. Slowly we are getting our TV
back, several weeks after the season started. But WNBC Channel 4 moved over
to another transmitter in Alpine N.J. which, although beautiful country in
northern N.J. near the border with upstate N.Y. (near Monticello), is the
ashole of the earth. Chosen by assholes it is still too far away from N.Y.C.
to get tv reception. No ghosts, no haze, no sound, NOTHING! When you go to
their website they recommend that you turn your roof antennae. Yeah I'd like
to "turn my antenna" into an endoscope and ram it up their stupid asses. We
still cant get Will And Grace, Dateline, West Wing, Law And
Order....NOTHING. Haven't seen any of the new shows to date, and none of the
returning favorites, AT ALL! They dont seem to care either. I have sent
Email to them and they are paying NO attention. Like, as if they are saying
"Why dont you have cable?" Why should I? I couldn't connect to, and get
seperate channels for 4 VCRs from one cable line so it doesn't work for me.
At this point I dont know if I'll ever go back to watching NBC. I am so
disenchanted with their attitude behind on what's going on on the
shows.....it's almost like a divorce. You know you cared about them once but
are so icy towards them now you dont care if they ever want to come back.

Buddy, there is a way to fix that. You can get one of those $20 A/V selector
that can input as many as 4 (I think some even has 6!) sources. I use this
selector for my videogames since I have about 3 video game systems and these
work very well!

So...no more excuses to get cable :-)

My VCR even has 2 inputs for anything (videogame or another VCR)!

OK, I have 4 different VCRs (one of which is a double deck). I tape CBS,
NBC, ABC from 8-11 nightly (there's not enough memory in programming to
program for just the shows I like). And on the last deck I tape the
occassional FOX or PBS shows. When I get home from work I sit and zoom
therough to the shows I want to see. This way I dont miss any of my favorite
shows (a lot). Thaty is up until recently.
