What does "Rinpoche" mean in English?

I was told the name of a Tibetan writer whose name sounds like "tick" I
can't imagine how that would actually be spelled in English and can't
locate anything via Google, etc. Does anyone know what name this is?

thank you

One of my CDs (The Heart of Dharma) says:

"Rinpoche, "Precious One", is the honorific applied
to incarnate lamas."

You can also consult any one of Eliot Patterson's Tibetan mysteries, as they
have a glossary in the rear of each volume with many tibetan terms defined.
They are a blast to read, also!
