I'll accept John Wayne Bobbitt for his noteriety more than his celebrity, but
let's face it: Oliver North wasn't an upstate native; he was born in Texas,
regardless of from where his parents hail.
And I'll certainly accept Jack Kemp as a Buffalo resident at some point, but
I'm not sure he was a native.
And what's Rod Serling's Syracuse connection? I know he was born in Endicott,
lived in Endicott and Binghamton until he graduated from high school; and spent
a good deal of time in or near Ithaca after he made good in Hollywood. But I
don't know what his connection is with Syracuse.
Just curious.

I missed a most of this thread, but a listing of some famous Rochesterians
can be foud at
http://timeforweb.com/folks.htm A good portion of this listing was compiled
by people on this NG. Not all of them are natives, and there are some sports
figures there as well. I hope this helps.
That's all folks !

The Guiding Light, the matriarch of the Bowers, whatever her name was. I
believe she was from Schenectedy or somewhere thereabouts. I knew someone
who told me she went to school with her, when she died in '82-3ish.
I think one of the horses from Mr. Ed may have been from upstate as well...
probably out Saratoga way ... *grin*
Brad
Oh, and since Timothy McVeigh made the list, shouldn't we include Arthur
Shawcross, the serial killer also?

Add--> Wendie Malick (actress, Just Shoot Me & Dream On), Buffalo
(confirmed in "Upstate Living" magazine May/June 1998).
: ---Chuck Mangione (trumpet player), Rochester
Considering that Spirogyra (or is it "Spyrogira" ...?) is from Buffalo,
that makes Western New York the official "Birthplace of Smooth Jazz." Is
that something we should be proud of, being the home of '90s style elevator
music?
: ---Timothy McVeigh (terrorist), Lockport
How many of you, upon first hearing the names "Theodore Kaczynski" and
"Monica Lewinski," thought "Oh no, not _another_ one from Buffalo?"
Let's not forget the members of the Goo Goo Dolls - whazztheirnames? Wolf
Blitzer - wasn't he from Buffalo, or did he just go to UB?

He wrote most of his "Twilight Zone" stuff at a campsite on Cross Lake
that borders Onondaga and Cayuga countys. He was on the Cayuga side of
the lake. Look for Jordan Road on the Cayuga County side of the lake.
My step-daughter's cousin, lead singer of the Bangles, Susannah Hoffs is
from Gates.
He definately has connections in Rochester. I babysat his cousin's kids a
few times.......

Clinton Corners is in Dutchess county. Poughkeepsie area.
I also heard that Sylvester Stallone had property around Cold Spring, this is
in Putnam county. Not exactally upstate, but......
Well, it may not be considered "Upstate," but it was definitely
mentioned
as Peekskill <sp?>. They mentioned it enough times in the show that I
wouldn't exactly call it "undesignated" :-)

Hey now, Spyro Gyra are far from "elevator music"!
Go see them live for a taste of some seriously good music.

Well, given some of the place names used in some of the Twilight Zone episodes,
he didn't try to hide his connections to the Southern Tier area.
Regarding "relatives" of "celebrities", don't Ted Kazynski's relatives live
near Schenectady (Glenville?) ? Also, for a few years anyway, O.J. Simpson,
famous white Bronco driver, near Buffalo while quarterback for the Bills.

I have many reference books.
Bob
None of these people were born here.
Bob
[Clears throat.] Look below.

OK, but who WAS that famous white Bronco Bills quarterback? We were
querying tonight and came up blank.
And YOUR name........ isn't it a bit notorious in these Shoreline parts??

We couldn't think of it either. What was the name of the white Bronco's
driver?

I've heard Steve Buscemi has some connection to Seneca Falls, although he was
born in Brooklyn.
Also, someone on The Simpsons' writing staff must be from around here. How
else to explain all the references to our area on the show?

Is this really correct? Last night on Jeopardy, Richard Simmons did
a video daily double and he said that his hometown is New Orleans. Unless,
he means that it's his _current_ hometown.
