I can't resist an invocation :)
I've driven past Leatherstocking Farm a number of times in my travels, as
it is located just down the road from my home (between Greenwich and
Cambridge), but I don't think I ever knew what it really was. My best
guess, based on something someone told me once, is that it was a place
where they did some sort of bovine research... I think it may have been
medical.
It is a beautiful stretch of hillside near Willard mountain...
"development" there would be horrible.
Oh, and the Post Star Online? Please direct me there.

You mean the Cambridge Road? or one of the offshoots? I used to caretake
a place out that way. Belonged to Frannie Herrick, a nurse at Mary
McClellan. Can't remember the name of the road (if it had one) but it was
past Pedersen's Turkey farm, turned off to the right, heading toward
Cambridge, that is. God, what memories! I was 16, and would have the
whole place to myself for days. Just took the school bus in and out of
town. To this day, my parents have no idea what went on out there.

Is this place some sort of "hot zone" or something involved in dark and
nefarious weapons research? But who owned this spread, anyway? There's
just something _wrong_ about the stories... What a book that would make.

Can't begin to imagine development anywhere near there. By the way, you
ever know a Grace (Hill) Skiff? There used to be a bunch of Skiff farms
out that way. Grace Margo and I were right close a mega-years ago. She
should have kids graduating about your time. Mine are.

'impressively thorough' ?? Oh, I don't know... for the same amount of work
expenditure, they could have set each of the sections up to be HTML pages rather
than one huge gopher screen... which would make it a) look better, and b) easier
to navigate.

Brian, gently, please...you know how touchy newspaper people can be.
And upstate people to boot. I'm real happy to be able to read what's
there every day. Joe Hennessy (Honolulu, ex-Greenwich)
i would rather get some of the local col....Like King's about local events...and
forget about Ann Landrs and the horoscope.
How many people up there are reading this? Most if they want to read it will
get the thing delivered. it is the people out of area/state/mainland...who are
interested in pulling it up and looking at local news.
Including local history.....ann Landers, etc. i can read in any paper.

I didn't think the P-S was leaving out any news/features. I agree that
Landers is about as interesting as the menus for senior citizen lunch
served at the Middle Falls Fire Station this week. I think we get it all
(though I'd have fun reading some classifieds...)
Maybe I've been _away_ too long, but once again I'd be cautious with
criticism. There's still a woodchuck or two up there. You'd think,
though, what with History groups in just about every village around, P-S
might want to flesh out their features section. I don't mind their Police
journalist's reminiscences. I remember the great near-riot at Lake George
Labor Day Weekend (?) of 1961. P-S wrote up that event this past Sunday.
First time I ever personally witnessed fire hoses used for anything other
than fires and ice rinks.

I wassn't there...i was in grad school in NC, but my younger brother was..
let's see...he would have been 18. i remember the row we had afterwards.
