There are a lot more but let's hear yours.
How about Canyon? They used to play in the Ulster, Dutchess, Putnam, and
Westchester County area back in the early 80s.
Another band I remember is Dakota, which used to play in the Utica
area.

The Legendary Dukes are still around with the original organist and
drummer...the original guitar player runs the sound system. They've grown
as a group over the years, they're no longer just a Dukes cover band.
Definitely worth a listen. You can get the original Wilmer album on cd
with a couple of previously unreleased cuts.
> The Brass Buttons
The organist/trumpet player from the Buttons now runs a music store in East
Rochester (Hot Lix).

You forgot the Rustix...they did a reunion show about ten years ago...

The best local band when I was in school was Double Axle, which later
became Broken Axle. They ran the Northern Music and Video store in Potsdam
by day, played clubs, dances, etc. by night. They're still around, I
think. And of course I must mention Odyssee, a Norfolk-based heavy metal
band featuring my big brother as the lead singer. They actually won a
Battle of the Bands contest in Massena, in 1989 I think. They broke up
after graduation in '89.

The last I heard, at least one of the members of Double Axle was still
in Potsdam, running Northern Music. I think Northern Music is still in
the old prosh building, but am not sure about that.

I went to Postdam State, and Double Axel would play for our annual Broken
Bones Event (women boxing, then the band.) They were very popular in the
Fall of 1989, and difficult to try to book, as they were super busy. I
think they played for other other greek organizations along with bar
gigs (ie. beer blasts). They were my favorite band along with the
Gigillo (sp?) Ants.
Some super memories in the North Country while attending college!

Remember Sandy Big Tree Band?

Clearly, I'm a holdout from Buffalo's disco daze.
From the late 70s:
My favorite bands were ISSAC and JUNCTION WEST. With Lance Diamond and Mary
Jane Monaco, I mostly remember Issac playing at Ma Barkers, which was on
Kenmore Ave near St. Joseph's. Junction West, with Harry Stewart and Joe
(can't remeber the other lead singer's name,) played mostly at The Executive
on Genessee St.
Anyone know what has become of any of these folks?

Holy smokes...The Gigalo Aunts played in Potsdam? They are based in Boston
and I used to see them in smaller places (a few hundred people tops) and have
an international following. Did they actually play there?

Mine's Cross Creek, from Syracuse area. Dave Novak,
John Dancks, Jay, Freddie - you guys were (are?!) the
best. Dyno show, very tight, right-on vocals.
Cheers -

When I was in grad school (physical chemistry) at the University of Chicago,
one day I was talking to the woman who was the secretary for my advisor. This
was in the later 1980's. We were talking about upstate NY and seemed to know
some of the same people (I lived in Syracuse 70-75 and Rochester 75-79)
and it turned out she was Sandy!! I remember that band well, (and
since I worked at WAER-FM and WCMF-FM and they were always on our "Music and
Events" calendar). What a coincidence.

I'll toss in Mr. Ed (or was it Mr. Edd?), who played in the Glens
Falls / Lake George area in the early 80's. They did a lot of 'Art Rock' -
Yes, Genesis, Supertramp, etc. - which appealed to me at the time. As I
recall, they did a pretty good job with most of it. Last I saw them, probably
around 1983, they had lost two members, and seemed a shadow of their former
selves.

As one of the 3 ex-Zobo keyboard players (1st was Rob Kaplan, I was the
2nd, and David Arnay was the last), it sure is nice to see Zobo remembered
here... it was really crazy and fun while it lasted :) Torn was, and still
is according to what I hear, light years ahead of the rest of the known
world. Would be great to hear from any old Zobo friends...Maybe,
