So, I'm watching the news and really, really hoping you're not over
there in China.

I'm not there, but I have friends who live in the area hardest hit. I did
talk to someone in Shanghai this morning who was on the 33rd floor of a
building. That's over 1000 miles away and they were totally freaked out by
it there!

It sounds really bad. Glad you are safe, Marc. Last night we had
some severe winds and maybe a baby twister or two, but AFAIK, no
injuries. We're two for two on that. But we're hurricane people, not
twister folks.

Glad to know you're alright, Marc. It looks like it's going to be
really, really bad.

I was just reading a new geologic survey where they said there's a 10%
chance that there could be a freaking 9.5 earthquake off of the Eureka
coast in the next 30 years. Maybe we should move south again.

"10% chance" "could be"

They've been trying to predict these things for a long time, and so far
haven't hit it right once. If there's a 9.5 near Eureka, you'd have to
choose Costa Rica as the "south" to move to!

Hey Marcus,

Actually, there's one guy who has a very good track record on
predicting them. The establishment geologists all hate him, of
course, but he's been right in there. Predicted the Loma Prieta quake
a week before it happened. One of the odd factors he uses is the
number of missing cats and dogs being advertised in the paper. His
theory is that the animals somehow know the quakes are coming and they
run off. Stranger than friction.
