Wara nofs-in-nhar it-tajjeb from the snowy UK!

I have visited the Maltese islands many times, and I hope to move there
permanently in a few years' time. I have started to learn Maltese (with the
help of an ex-pat Maltese friend of mine!), and I am wondering how important
this will be in getting work in Malta? I understand that the majority of
Maltese people speak English, and that many legal documents are posted in
English, but just wondered culturally and practically how important the
ability to write and converse in Maltese actually is. It's a great
language - I love it!

Also - apart from through the web, are TVM/OneTV/NetTV available outside
Malta? (Satellite etc)

Any advice would be great... and here's a pic of the weather in my village
today to make you all feel superior! I can't wait 'til my next visit!
:o)

Grazzi hafna - ghandi pjacir!

(PS - I'm new to all this, so I hope I'm not 'off-message' with my first
post)

Merhba Jim,

It is nice to hear that you are move to malta and you are welcomed:-)
English is widely used in Malta as a spoken and written language, as
you may have already noticed you won't have a problem to communicate
with English. By learning Maltese it will facilitate a lot you life,
not mainly for getting work but for every day life such as shopping at
the grocery shop. Although in Malta there is a couple of supermarkets
from where you can find all your needs, most of the community buy
their daily needs from the grocery round the corner, it is more a
socializing experience then shopping.

Regarding the TV channels, Maltese channels are not available through
satellite. In Malta we watch a lot the Italian channels. Before
moving to Malta I suggest to subscribe for the sky satellite package
which is available for UK residents. Cause the television channels
offered by melita (www.melita.com) through cable and go
(www.go.com.mt) don't offer a wide range of English channels. So it
will be much comfortable for you the bring an original system with
you.
