Is there anybody still into the lounge scene out there? Personally, I love
this stuff - the clothes, the drinks, and especially the music. I love stuff
by Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Esquivel, and of course anything by anyone in the
Rat Pack.

Please, someone help get this newsgroup back on track. Hoping to hear from
you,

Jeff

I hope also this newsgroup will get back on track.

I am looking for some free lounge loops to put in my flash movies.
I can't seem to find any on the web.

Thanks
Mélanie

the people at hot topic say that lounge is kewl now. however, i don't think
anybody really gets what the whole scene is about. sure, they might have some
kewl shirts or rad fedoras, but how many of those kids that buy 'em actually
listen to bobby darrin? or even know who bobby darrin is?!
i know some people who like the stuff after i play it for them, but they're not
totally into the scene, they just listen to the stuff once in a while.
it's the same thing with r&b.
it's a damn shame. sorry, i had to vent.

Hi Erica,

Nice to hear from you. As amazing as it seems, I live in Las Vegas, and there
is no real lounge scene here. Sure, there are lounges in every casino - but
what do they feature? Usually bands playing bad 80s rock, or the occasional
Elvis impersonator. No one will even consider doing the music that made Las
Vegas great.

For a brief while, swing bands were being hired in the lounges, and would do
some Sinatra, Dean Martin and Bobby Darin in the mix. But, all of a sudden,
swing became uncool, and all the swing bands here are out of work. Now, you are
more likely to hear Miami Sound Machine, as if anybody really wants to hear
that.

I guess this is just a bit of a vent too. Nice meeting you.

To reply to erica and Jeff and all other lounge lizards,

It is a shame that the scene and the true lounge culture has died down to a
trickle. It's really sad when a friend and I go out to the "Corner Bar"
(the name of the place) and start playing Dean Martin, Nat King, and Frank
on the jukebox. Then after the first two songs, the bartender gives me my
money back and changes it to R&B. First off, hello, I'm the customer. It
is terrible that people will listen to whatever the radio tells them is cool
and popular. I prefer to find my own music from recommendation of friends.
I find that best remedy for lizard's blues is a 'extra' dry martini and
sweet Peggy Lee.

Cheers,
Fredrick J. Forest

I for one am glad Lounge/swing/whatever ya wanna call it is dipping out of pop
culture. It makes the scena little more "real"? Anyway, I check in ever now and
again!
