Hey pallies!

I'll be heading out to the San Francisco in a couple of
weekends and was wondering what clubs I should check out
for great music and/or atmosphere. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Emily

Hi Emily,
I don't get over to S.F. for shows and clubs as much as I would like to
these days :<(, but here's a few suggestions which might help

some clubs/venues/bars:
Bimbo's 365 Club
Bruno's
Cafe du Nord
Lilo Lounge - tiki bar
Paradise Lounge
Tonga Room at The Fairmount Hotel - touristy, but great tropical drinks
lotsa new swing spots cropping up, but I haven't really checked them out

local music:
not sure what's coming up in June, but most of the venue's listed above book
lounge/ swing/exotic bands regularly. I do know that Action Plus+ is playing
Bruno's June1/ June15 and w/Frenchy at Bottom of the Hill Friday, June12.
If you like dreamy ez listening, classic AM style lounge pop, with surf
guitar/spy movie/gothic/bossa nova influences, not to mention theremins and
bongo's, you'll like Action Plus.

radio/media:
The only decent commercial station is KABL 960 AM. There's some interesting
stuff on college radio that you might wanna listen to:
Groovy Movie Soundtracks Sunday 7pm-8pm KUSF 90.3 FM
House Of Games w/Jack Diamond Sunday 10am-1pm KFJC 89.7 FM
Surf's Up w/Phil Dirt Saturday 7pm - 9pm KFJC 89.7 FM
KFJC doesn't come in very well in parts of S.F. (lotsa hills), but I can get
it in fine in the East Bay, and even listened to Phil Dirt's awesome surf
instrumental show way up at Stinson Beach/Point Reyes in Marin Co. one night
(and what a memorable evening that was).

Check out free weekly's such as Bay Guardian and SF Weekly for
club/show/film listings, and Amoeba Records in the Haight for a great
lounge/soundtrack selection.

Hope this helps, and if you want a nice view - go up to Twin Peaks when it's
not too cold, windy, and foggy,

Cary (vicd...@worldnet.att.net)

I'll second that! these are really great programs and you should dial in if
you have a chance!

Great suggestions, Cary!

I forget to mention that you don't HAVE to be in the SF Bay Area to enjoy these
shows.

All have broadcast over the 'net, so if your pewter is equipped, check 'em out!

You should also check out Irwin Chusid's radio show on WFMU in New York.
