While asked about the food at Ambalapusha (Chembaganadu) by the king,
Kunjan Nambiar composed the following poem.
"Patram vistritamatra, tumba malar to|tto|dino|rannavum,
Puttan nai, kaniye pazhutha pazhavum, kalipazham, kalanum,
pathanjooru karicku dasyamiyalum narangayum, mangayum,
Itham chembaganattilashti ----------- ------------"
Meaning, the plantain leaf is very big, the rice is as white as
Tumba flower which is very white, new melted butter, banans just ripened
perfectly, red bananas and kalan ( a type of dish). Besides, the
lemon and mango pickle will make all the 500 curries serve them ( being so
superior), this is the way food is served in Chembaganad.
While Trivandrum king asked the same question about the food at
Chembaganad, Nambiar submitted the same poem with a different punctuation:
"Patram vistritamatra tumba, malar tottodinornannavum,
puthan nai kaniye, pazhutha pazhavum kali, pazham kalanum
pathanjooru karicku dasyamiyalum, narangayum mangayum,
itham chembaganattilashti, -------- -------------"
Meaning, the plantain leaf is as big as tumba which has tiny leaves,
rice is so inferior that it will defeat puffed grain in lightness,
the melted butter is bitter, the banana has over-ripened and bad,
and the kalan is old and is fit to serve all the 500 other curries,
lemon and mango pickle, this is the way food is served in chembaganaadu.
Anyone with more stuff?
