The last three letters of the alphabet are
"Ou" - as in "ouch" or Ousep
"Am" as in Ambujam
and Ah as in Aha!! :)

We have completed the first set of alphabets called "swarangal". (Phew!)

Now we start the next set called 'vyanjanangal"...

The first two letters are "Ka" and "Kha".

Feel free to add any songs that begin with any of the above
five letters ... Ou, Am, Ah, Ka and Kha..

I am adding more letters so that we get a few "popular" alphabets
every week. Ka also includes Ku, Ki, Kee, Kru Etc...Anything with
K will do... ;)

Here are a few K songs:

Kanmani nee en karam pidichaal
Kannukal enthinnu vaerae, ennikku
Kannukal enthinnu vaerae.....
(A M Raja and P.Susheela)

Kaattadichu kodum kaatadichu,,
Kaayallillae viLakku maram kannadachu..
(Yesudas)

KattaRiyilla kadallaRiyilla
Alayum thirayudae vaedana..
Alayum thirayudae vaedana..
(AM Raja)

Kattil, iLLam kattil...
Ozhuki varum gaanam..
Oru kaaNa kuyil paadum
KaLamuraLi gaanam..
(P. Susheela)

Regards.

Maya :)

Looks like all the songs posted are sorta 1960-80s hits. May be many are
not in touch with the new songs..

Agree that the general melody content is less in the new songs and are
hence less exhilarating to recollect.. but there are some good ones..
like..

kaathodu kaathorum thEn choruma-manthram
eeNathil nee cholli, vishu-pakshi polE
(Yesudas, ? - Kaathodu Kaathorum)

koothamla-thil vecho kurumozhi kunnil vecho

(Yesudas - Appu)

kunnimani-chheppu thuranneNNi nokkum neram,
pinnil vannu kannu pothum thozha-nengu poyo
(? - ponmuttayidunna tharaavu)

karuna cheyvaanenthu thaamasam krishna,
kazhaliNa kaithozhunnen..
(Madhuri - Gaanam)

kaLippaattamay kaNmaNi ninte munnil,

(Yesudas - KaLippaattam)

kanna nee adyamaayen baahyaroopam swanthamaakki

(Chitra - Sargam)

kaNNir-kaayali-letho kaayalil-Etho kadalaas-inte thoni,

I have a suggestion..
it looks like there are too many songs starting with
the alphabet Ka and its derivatives : Kaa. Ki. Keee, Ko, Koooo etc/
maybe we can try to list all songs starting with
ka, kaa, ki, kee in one week, ko, ku, kuuu, koo etc in
another..this need not hold good now for ka because we already
have started it, may be for other frequently used alphabets which
will come in the coming weeks???

what do you guys think???

Yes Sathyan, you are right. I agree and also I am trying to
save the list of songs posted here, especially the new ones.
My contention is, the songs being posted here are from memory
and only the good ones get logged in our mind and recalled at
random. The relatively newer songs such as
"Kathod Kathorum..."
"Olathumbath irunnooyaladum Chella painkili.." are indeed lovely
ones that I keep listening to over and again.

My plans are to get as many of them as possible on tapes when we
visit Kerala this December. I am not sure if any of those audio
recording shops in Kerala will have such a vast collection,
songs from 60's to 90s!

Ooops, sorry, I did not mean to hurt your sentiments Sathyan, please
accept my apologies if my remarks did so:(

Bangalore is a place that I would definetly like to add to my itenary
but the three weeks short visit is hardly enough for me in Kerala
and my Kannaadi Kadavu.

On a different note, having lived for over an year in Mysore, given
an option, I would prefer Mysore to Bangalore to spend a few days
on vacation, especially since the pace of life is a lot much slower
there. One cool place I still dream to wake up on a misty morning is
the Dew Drop Inn, half way to Koorg from Mysore. Hope they haven't
closed down the place. That inn was in the middle of nowhere, a
total country terrain where breakfast was served on their lawn by
a farm fence. The coolest part was that, nobody was in any hurry
there, as if the time stood still for them. Most of the waiters were
old, even the utensils were old. They served warm water for shower
in copper tavern in the mornings! If I am not mistaken, the owner
was a Koorgy, a very fine gentleman, who owned many hotels in Mysore
in 88-89 time frame, when I happened to drive in on my Yezdi! This
place was his dream one, aptly called the Dew Drop Inn.

There is one I know. Near REC Calicut (to be precise the place is
called Kattangal in Chathamangalam Panchayat of Kozhikkode dt.) there is
a music shop. He got all the malayaalam collections right from the first
Malayaalam film (that was soundless, is it ?). I was planning to make a
trip some time.. Shall inform you..if it realizes..

You're probably right. I can't seem to distinguish between singers nowadays,
with *everyone* sounding like Yesudas :)

no Sathyan, Kannir poovinte was sung by MG Sreekumar. Venugopal got
his national award for the songs, "Unaroomee gaanam" from the
Padmarajan movie "Moonam Pakkam". He got another award for a song in
the movie "Sasneham". I forgot the song.

abuji,

I have a collection of old tapes that are called "Ormikkan Omanikkan".
They have songs from 1964 - 1971. Most of the songs are good. Each tape
cost around Rs. 45/ - 2 years ago. I have five of them. I wonder if
they have introduced more..

I'll try to get that HMV collection next time :)

Regards.

Dear Friends,
I am a relatively new guy to get a taste of your cultural activities.
I understand primarily these interactions help to cater to our nostalgia
of film songs over the years, the point I liked. Because, I was highly
associated with orchestra activities in India. With the same reasons I
shall also try to contribute something to your collections. If any one
of you have to offer the details of this interaction till now, I will be
very happy to start with.
I just happened to see this while my friend was using his e-mail, and
therefore I am sending this message through his account. You can also

Yeah, Harry, I think it is a great idea..
Already we have had lots of memories and discussions
of old songs and new. There are lots of folks lurking
in the background, hesitant to post any of their songs.
Some have e-mailed me their songs. Come on..
Anybody can do it.. :)

Regards.

The song...

Kaattadichu..

brings memories of Engg College, Tcr.

We had made this into a action song like the way, kindergarten songs

Hehehe! I like that!

I find this makes interesting reading, what people felt, thought or were
doing when they heard certain songs. I'm sure this song brings back
memories for many other people out there. Maybe we'll hear from them...

Uh, ho, I am lost! With this barrage of songs starting in Ka, Ke, Ki, Ko
and so on being unleashed here, I am lost, totally lost. I am not able
to keep track of them any more, because it is so overwhelming to see the
tremendous response.

On the memory lane, I was trying to recollect the very first song that I
would have heard that begins with Ka. Want to take a guess? Have you
guys/gals heard this one?

kaake, kaake koodevide?
koottinakothoru kunjille?
kunjinu theetti kodukknajaal
kunju kidannu karyoooooole?

I am not sure what I were probably doing while listening to this one,
may
be screaming at full pitch or staring at the big large bird that goes
"kaaa,
kaa, kraa" all over the back yard, hopping from branch to branch and
pausing
a moment or two with that skewed look in its eyes at our "adukkala".

Every time I hear that bird, it reminds me about the good old Kerala!

This brings to memory another song from the first standard text book..

Raki Parakunna Chembarunte
Neeyundo Mamanka vela kandu
Velayum Kandu, Vilakkum Kanu
Kadalil Thira kandu, Kappal Kandu..

This song was taught for many years in schools, Then one fine morning
Karunarakarn's education minister TM Jacob woke up on the wrong side
of bed. HE wondered what is this word "Raki". He thundered that, the
word was wrong and we needed to find an alternative word... This was a
favourite topic of "Kunjammavan" in Mathrubhoomi.

That year school Yuvajanolsavam was in Trichur, where one student
sang..

"Praaki parakunna Chembarunte.."

In fact, the crow is as representative of Kerala as the coconut palm is.
This is what gives some parts of my video so much realism in that we can
hear these ubiquitous crows all * AROUND * us, if the HI Fi VCR is piped
into a Surround Sound audio system. Once a friend watching the video
unconsciously put his hand over his head to prevent an unfortunate
accident initiated by the bird! Now, THAT is precisely the kind of result
(ie, realism) I had set out to produce!! And to good effect.:-)

To me, the cawing of these black birds is music to the ears.

This song starting with K, brings back a few memories:

Kadalivazhakkayyilirunnu Kaakkayinnu virunnu vilichu
Virunnukaaraa virunnukaara virunnukaara vannatte

Especially the line starting as:

Vayassananu varunnathenkil.....

because that was the line my bride to be used to tease me with when I
used to tease her singing:

Kaakkathampuraatti karutha manavatti koodevede
.......
Of course when I was down in the dumps trying to finish up my thesis and
get out she used to cheer me up in her letters with:

Oru kochu swapnathin chirakumayaviduthe arikil njanippol vannenkil
Oru nokku kanan oru vaakku parayan orumicha dukhathil panku cheraan
But
