Regarding the saint-poets (dasarugalu) of Karnataka,
I have an incomplete list here with their original
names and "trademarks" in their works.
Can anybody complete/update/correct the list ?
Also are all of these contemporaries ? If not, who
was the earliest and who the latest?
Purandara Dasa (Srinivasa Nayaka) Purandara Vittala
Vijaya Dasa ( ? ) Vijaya Vittala
Kamalesha Vittala ? Kamalesha Vittala
Jagannatha Dasa ? Jagannatha Vittala
Sripadaraya ? Ranga Vittala
Vyaasaraya ? ?
Helavanakattey Giriyamma(?) ? Helavanakattey Ranga
Kanaka Dasa ? Kaagineley Adi Keshava
Gopala Dasa ? ?
? ? Muddu Vittala
It is amazing that Karnataka has produced at least ten
such saint-poets!
Regards.
I can think of one more, Vaadirajaru. His ankita was Hayavadana in
Kannada and Vaajivaktra in Sanskrit compositions. There is also
Raghavendraswamigalu. Was his registered trade-mark Moola Rama?
Purandara and Kanaka were contemporaries and disciples of Vyasrayaru
who was the Rajaguru of Krishnadevaraya.
Purandara is believed to have composed 4750(?) padas and Vijayadasaru
added more to make it 5000(?)

Sri Raghavendra swamigalu composed with the ankitha(trade mark)
"Sri VenuGopala Krishna".

A couple of zeros has been left out in the numbers mentioned above.
Sri Purandara dasaru composed nearly 450,000 compositions. Sri VyasaRaja
the Guru of Sri Purandara dasa, named the whole compositions of Sri
Puranadara dasa as "Purandaro Upanishath".
I do not know how many compositions Sri Vijaya dasaru composed. It must be more
than 5000.
