Ravikumar, this song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and its from the movie
"SangoLLi RayaNNa". Suman Kalyanpur has sung a song called "ODa NaDi
bekendu miDukide". I think Suman Kalyanpur hails from Dharwad.

Hmm... I think you are right. In that case, I stand corrected.
Can the movie experts resolve this issue for sure?

howdu!

For those who don't know, "English GeetagaLu" is a collection
of B.M. Sree's translations of several well known English poems from the
"Romantic" period. Many critics feel that some of his translations are
superior to the original poems! "karuNaaLu baa beLake" is one of those
poems. The other poets he translated include Wordsworth and Burns.

I too have heard that most of the translations are superior to the
originals. One of the poems from the sankalana I can remember is:

chanLiyanu konda hakkigaLuligaLe chanda
kUvU jagjag pUvI TUviTTavU (supposed to be different bird chirpings !)

kuri negedATa kurubara koLalinUdATa

banda vasanta; namma rAja vasanta

The singer is Lata Mangeshkar (her only song in Kannada?). It
is from a mid-1960s film "SangoLLi RaayaNNa," a historical on
the life of the freedom fighter. I vaguely remember the music
director's name to be Lakshman Berlekar. The film was made in
North Karnataka and I don't think it ever saw a proper release
in Bangalore. I remember the wording as "beLLana beLagaayitu."

sung by latA. There are 6 songs in the movie, 2 each by latA and mannAdey
and one each by usha mangEshkar and AshA bhOnsle (all hindi singers). If
anyone interested in who provided the music/lyric, eMail me.
I also remember latA singing other kannada songs.
