Citing AP, on October 7, 2004 Taipei Times covered the story that the
new Hong Kong legislature was sworn in yesterday and the ceremony was
disrupted by shoutings from a radical activist who won office.

Legislator Leung Kwok-hung, known as "Longhair" in Hong Kong, shouted
"Long live democracy! Long live the people!" before and after his
official oath.

At first Leung sought to change his oath to include words to fight for
democracy, freedom and human rights, but legislature officials and a
judge warned him he could lose the seat if he refused to take the
official oath.

Leung put on a black Che Guevara T-shirt as a political statement, in
comparison to other legislators in business suits. He said, "I
declare here, loudly, I will be loyal to the Chinese people and Hong
Kong citizens, oppose collusion between the government and the
business sector, defend democracy and justice, fight for human rights
and freedom."
