Hello, I was wondering whether anyone had any information or evidence -
anecdotal or research - on the generation gap in China, and also the
changing role of women in society. Help needed!

Try posting your question on soc.culture.china, but I must warn you in advance that you will get more than you bargain for, because of the number of trolls lurking around in that newsgroup.

Generation Gap, huh. The values and standards that allowed our parents to
grow and give birth to us will probably serve us just as well. I have
noticed that there is, at times, way to much of a desire to accept and to
measure others by western standards. I am an American and live in Las
Vegas. Western values and standards are fine, by me. However, my concern
is that people (kids) will surrender the values that have served them for
generations because they saw something on TV, read something in a book, or
saw a commercial that gives them cause to not understand their own value.
Just because I live in Las Vegas people think that I hang around casinos and
gamble all day. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I am a very
conservative man and do not smoke, drink or gamble. I have been known to
curse like a bolt of lightening when I become angry. :)
We need to look into ourselves for our own validations and definitions.
What others do, what they wear, how they perceive things is not, I repeat,
NOT, important. How YOU feel about your life and family is important. Do
not measure your success by me. Measure your success by your standards.
Compare your today with your yesterday. How did you do?? What will you do
today to make tommorrow better??

The Chinese youth have great power and potential. Use that for
constructive ways, and not what has been done in the past. I am very
confident in, and proud of the Chinese youth of today!!
