The last time that Sixty Minutes did anything on bullfighting was some 30
years ago, when they assigned Cleveland Amory, head of the "Friends of
Animals" organization, to produce the segment. It was a debacle. Asking
Amory to do something on bullfighting was tantamout to asking Robert
Welch to deliver a eulogy to Sir Bertrand Russell. It was filled with
lies and distortions.
But, this program was a good one, and Sixty Minutes should be commended,
although I am certain that PETA and other extremist organizations will
raise a storm. Therefore, aficionados on these boards are encouraged to
write to Sixty Minutes, to commend the program for this show.

Lyn:
I agree with your observations. I too thought that they presented both
sides of this "tema" well. One thing I did miss however (the kids were
yelling in the other room and I couldn't hear...) was the name that they
mentioned of the only American to reach Matador status in Spain. I think
they said John somebodyorother. Who was it?
One other note. Remember part where they were talking about how serious
he is before he goes into the ring, and it showed him with a straight
face in his traje de luces, trying to get a crink out of his neck? My
parents said they started laughing at that part - cause my Spanish
husband does the exact same thing with his neck (but he does fight
bulls.)
Bravo 60 Minutos!!

That would be John Fulton, from Philadelphia, who now resides in
Seville. I thought there were others, though. Lyn will know about that.

Lyn,
Could you please name them?
Thank you,
Christopher
Lyn,
Sincere (humble) question. I don't know the answer, and probably lots
of others don't either.

I got three of them right (Sidney Franklin, John Fulton, and Robert
Ryan), but was hard pressed to come up with any others.
Interesting bit of history, and glad to see it recorded here.
All the best,
Christopher
