Following through on Gov. Tony Knowles’ commitment to seek public review
and comment of the state’s proposed terms for BP Amoco’s acquisition of
Arco, a series of six town hall meetings have been scheduled for the
week of November 15. The meetings, including public meetings in
Anchorage and Fairbanks and teleconference meetings with the rest of the
state through the Legislative Information Offices (LIOs) will occur
Monday through Wednesday.
MEETING SCHEDULE
Monday, November 15
* Railbelt, Interior teleconference - 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - including
the LIOs in Mat-Su, Delta Junction, Glennallen and Tok.
* Kenai, Gulf Coast, Aleutians teleconference - 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. -
including LIOs in Kenai, Homer, Seward, Kodiak, Cordova, and Valdez.
Tuesday, November 16
* Anchorage and Fairbanks public meetings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. In
Anchorage, the meeting will be held at the Anchorage Museum of History
and Art, 121 W. 7th Avenue. Parking is available in the museum garage.
The Fairbanks meeting is scheduled for the Westmark Fairbanks Gold Room
at 813 Noble Street.
Wednesday, November 17
* Bush Alaska teleconference - 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - including the
LIOs in Bethel, Dillingham, Nome, Kotzebue and Barrow.
* Southeast teleconference - 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. - including LIOs in
Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka and Wrangell.
Rules for Meetings
* In state Alaskans only may testify.
* Residents in communities without LIOs will be able to comment by
phone during the teleconference to their respective region. The toll
free number to call is 800-478-9325.
* Residents can listen to the regional teleconferences at the
Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau LIOs.
* Each meeting will begin with a presentation of the tentative
agreement, followed by an opportunity for public comment.
* Comments will be limited to 3 minutes per individual or 5 minutes by
representatives of groups.
The meetings will be attended by members of the governor’s cabinet-level
merger review team, which includes Attorney General Bruce Botelho,
Natural Resources Commissioner John Shively, Revenue Commissioner Wilson
Condon, and Special Counsel John Katz. Officials from BP Amoco also will
attend the meetings.
The meetings will be recorded, and the public comments summarized and
analyzed in a report to be delivered to the governor and public by the
end of the month. Copies of the tentative agreement are available on
the state web page, www.state.ak.us, and comments can also be submitted

The proposed merger is subject to final approval by the Federal Trade
Commission.
