There was this movie that I remember seeing at the pictures when I was really young (probably 5 or 6). It had lots of spaceships fighting each other, some guy dressed in black with a really deep voice, laser guns, strange glowing swords and a couple of robots. What was it called? I've been trying to find out for years! Please help, as anyone I ask just starts laughing at me. Has it ever been on television? If it has I mast have missed it.

Many thanks,

Bobby.

Um, it was released around 1977, I think. Had a couple of
sequels, as I recall. The name is on the tip of my tongue, but . . .

Wait! You've seen it, too!? I thought i was the only one. It's been
driving me crazy for a good year and a half now, because i just started
remembering bits of it and couldn't put it all together. If anyone can
identify this movie and tell me if it's available on video i, too, would
appreciate it greatly.

"Spaceballs" is too new.

I think it is either "Message From Space", "The Shape Of Things To Come",
"Battle Beyond The Stars", or, most likely, "STarcrash".

No no no no no no no, silly, I saw the one he's talking about on video the
other night. One of my friends kept telling me how good it was. Frankly I was
kinda disappointed. I think the title was _Gone With The Wind_. Star Wars was
that strange Caesar Romero flick wasn't it?

I think he *really* is referring to the two Conan Flicks!
the guy with the dark suit and the deep voice was in the second one, but,
hey, the two robots were in the first one.
Actually, one of the robots would periodically morph into a
sexy redhair, though.
I did think the spaceship battles were a gas!

Starcrash sounds right. Message from Space and Battle Beyond the Stars were
both Magnificient 7/Seven Samurai clones, and The Shape of Things to Come was
a very bad followup to the original.

What really impresses me about Starcrash is that enormous battle station that
looks like Michael Jackson'sl glove.

Not to mention the inspired casting of Caroline Munro, David Hasselhoff <under
another name>, Marjoe Gortner and Joe Spinnell.
I just liked all the ultra-cheesy, psychedelic special effects.

but hey, "Message From Space" has the techno-swords, the cute robots, the
guy in black with a deep voice, etc...
So does "Battle Beyond the Stars".
but I think he was thnking of "The Black Hole".

BTW, "The Shape Of Things To Come" was hardly a followup to anything.
Especially not the original. Has nothing to do with Wells, except for the
title. But it does feature the swords, the robots, the guy in black with a
deep voice. And it is truly awful!

Actually, according to the write-up given in one magazine (either Starlog
or Cinefantastic, I don't have the article anymore) TSOTTC was really
supposed to be a sequel to the original.

Failed dismally in this, didn't it?
