Requiem for a Dream is a profoundly disturbing film about drugs and the abuse
of same, not just by the pathetic junky (Jared Leto), but also by his diet pill
addicted Mom (played by Ellen Burstyn, who should have won the Oscar for this
film, but she lost to Julia Roberts, go figure)

Will definitely have to second (or third) "Requiem for a Dream" also. Yes,
profoundly disturbing, but
oh such an excellent film.

Naked Lunch does a good job of showing the hallucinated world of an
addict.

there's more, I'm sure... Permanent Midnight; not a great film, but
worth a look. with ben stiller.

does the Tingler count? ;)

Hi there.

Some suggestions:

Trainspotting
Panic in Needle Park
Drugstore Cowboy
The Trip (ambiguous)
Reefer Madness

Some video companies like Something Weird (www.somethingweird.com) and
Sinister Cinema (www.sinistercinema.com) have sections devoted to drug
movies and it would be worthwhile looking at their online catalogues.

Cheers.

Iain

I saw it, it's quit interesing, especially because Al Pacino is main actor in this movie, but on the other hand
IMHO this movie is little to trashy.

For some reason you've reminded me of "Choirboys" - don't remember
if there were any drugs involved or just drunken debauchery. It's worth
seeing just for Clyde Kusatsu's vampire impression.

Every time I read this thread, I remember another movie. How the
heck Depp in Blow could remind me of:

Doublecrossed (made for cable, Dennis Hopper)

I'll never figure out....

imdb:
"This movie portrays the drug scene in Berlin in the 70s, following tape
recordings of Christiane F. 14 years old Christiane lives with her
mother and little sister in a typical multi-storey apartment building in
Berlin. She's fascinated by the 'Sound', a new disco with most modern
equipment. Although she's legally too young, she asks a friend to take
her. There she meets Detlef, who's in a clique where everybody's on
drugs. Step by step she gets drawn deeper into the scene "

It's a German film. When it came out in '81 it was much talked about in
Europe. The film was based on abook about a real life junky. When the
film came out you saw a lot of her in the media. Actually she was an
news item for quite a while, years after the film she fell back into her
own drughabbits. This is her, I think:

Amazon has the film on DVD.

DONT FORGET:

The Salton Sea - (Crank) (Val Kilmer - this film is grossly
underrated)
Spun - (Crank)
Midnight Express - (Hash) (This is a must see based on a true story!)
Blow - (Coke)
Empire (Heroin)
Blue Sunshine (LSD) (This is a must see cult film)
Acid House (Based on Irvine Welsh short stories - on e of the three is
about LSD)\
For an excellent satire ck ot "Ringer" which is a short film on the
dvd Blue Sunshine. This is a film that talks about the absurdity of
nose rings and how society is "leading us around by the nose"....
all 20 years before the now popular nose ring trend...

Tom

"Sid & Nancy", directed by Alex Cox*

*little sidenote rumour about this film: supposibly Gary Oldman researched
this role by becoming an alcoholic & a heroin addict (whic sunds a bit
far-fetched, until you realize he became researched his role in "Dracula" by
becoming a vampire... at least that's how these rumors go).. anyone have any
truths/untruths about that?
