I recckon The Blues Brothers should be in there somewhere, and the
Committments, and although you probably didn't mean that kind of movie,

Discounting films made by bands/singers themselves
(excludes therefore 'Head' and 'Jailhouse Rock') my
vote goes for Ike and Tina Turner appearing in
'Taking Off' by Milos Forman out of nowhere. Their
performance is astounding and is quite
unknown among cinema-goers.
(By the way Carly Simon also appears in that film
as auditioning).

Or possibly the Alice Cooper Band in "Diary Of A Mad Housewife." They
conclude their set by tearing up a mannequin and throwing the pieces into
the audience. A most-fitting scene for the "mad" housewife to witness.

That'd have to be 7 Year Bitch as themselves in _Mad Love_ or
L7 as "Camel Lips" in _Serial Mom_. The latter was one of the best scenes
of all time!
Incidentally, when L7 bailed on Lollapalooza last year they played under
then name Camel Lips in Austin instead.

Bauhaus in "The Hunger," because they fit the mood perfectly.
Blue Oyster Cult in "The Stoned Age" for the post-credit sequence with the
band selling bootleg T-shirts...that was really cute.
Now, as for the worst, my vote goes for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in
"Clueless." The band themselves are unhappy about that one...it was
completely ridiculous to se a ska (or skacore, if you prefer) band playing
for a yuppie crowd with NOBODY SKANKING!!!!!!!!!

That was THE HUNGER. Not my favorite movie, but the Bauhaus footage with

The best part is when the possessed hand is still attatched and
it's beating him up. When it grabs him by the back of the head and flips
him! Then smashing plates over his head and finally dragging an
unconcious Ashe slowly over to the kitchen knife to finish him off! What

adore Jello Biafra (former leader of the Dead Kennedys) in Highway 61. He
has a breif cameo as a customs agent at the canadain/us border. It's
hilarious! Art bergman also has a small role in this great flic.

Is there a dismembered hand in the 1931 'Frankenstein'?
And although the hands weren't dismembered (but they were somebody else's
hands grafted on to the central character), the first version of 'The
Hands of Orlac' was made in the twenties.

Not to be obvious or anything, but what about "The Hand," starring (I
think) Rosey Grier? Great "wrestling with the hand as it chokes you"
scene. Really there was no other way for that film to end.

YES! This should definitely be an Oscar nominee in the "Best appearance
by dismembered hand" catagory. The runner-up would have to be that Peter
Lorre movie (I've forgotten the name, anybody?) where the hand plays
piano and is eventually thrown into the fireplace only to crawl out and
strangle poor Peter.
Oh, and the 50's movie :The Crawling Hand" was also a good appearance.
For those who don't know it, a spaceship crashes and the severed arm of
the dead astronaunt goes on a killing spree. It is finally "killed" in a
junkyard by a bunch of kitty-cats and eaten! Priceless. -MG

I really like the sudden out-of-the-blue appearance of Twisted Sister in
Pee Wee's Big Adventure, where they're sitting on the front of a car lip
synching "You're Gonna Burn In Hell" for a video. And Tim Burton may very
well add another one to the list, because apparently Tom Jones plays
himself in Mars Attacks. (Do you think he'll get a chance to kick ass or
just get eaten by aliens right away?)
Honorable mention: Fishbone as Ranchbone in Tapeheads, George Clinton
and the P-Funk All Stars in some Keanu Reeves movie (I think it was called
either The Night Before or The Morning After), Cypress Hill in Meteor Man
(they save the day), Boogie Down Productions in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka.

The name of the movie is 'Mad Love,' believe it or not.
Another neat (or messy, I guess) hand appearence is in Yojimbo,
and all the rip-offs thereof.

Oh, wrongo! The hand survives the cat attack, and is locked in box, by
the military. Who then give the box, AND THE KEY(!) to some dimwitted
delivery people. One of them opens it, and just before we get to see
something REALLY funny, the movie ends. Needeless to say, I saw this on
MST3K.
