i've been lurking in the newsgroup for a few weeks now... waiting,
reading, gathering my strength, and making sure i wouldn't be redundant in
my posts.

now that my trial period is over, i'm going to post some questions
to everyone to start up some conversations that i find interesting.

first one.

i loved pi. pretty decent movie. what i really enjoyed about it
though was the subject matter. does anyone know of any other movies that
deal with abstract mathematics? list some examples... get some discussion
going.

Pheew... as a rule abstract math. makes for a poor ( or finacially unsound for
a studio ) plot device. The only thing I can thing of that even remindes me of
it is an episode of Doctor Who where one of the chacters trys to figure out the
variables for the code to a bomb in order to disarm it. And fails, is blow
up/killed off and leaves the show.
I suppose if you wanted to stretch it, you could say that Seaching For Bobby
Fisher, a movie about chess. Is somewhat base in mathmatics.

" Fiery the angels fell, Deep thunder rolled around their shores,
Burning with the fires of orc."

Pi was about abstract maths, or is that where it all started
