Rocky flyer/comic artwork

I am posting this for a friend, even though I told him that it
may not be a good idea, but what the hell, he insisted...
James Dunn, member of The Transducer Players and professional
comic book artist, would like to offer his services to any and all casts
that contact him.
What he does is pencil and ink origonal RHPS flyers and other
artwork. It really is some of the best stuff I have ever seen. He does
all of our stuff, and he was both flattered and miffed when he saw a copy
of one of his 1990 flyers being used by a Virginia cast, blocking out
his sig. It was also of poor quality being a copy of a copy of a copy.
His offer is simple: The origonal 14 x 17 panel of made to order
artwork personalized to you're theatre. YOU buy it, YOU own it, YOU do
what you like with it. No other theatre will have it, including ours.
All you have to do is leave the sig alone.
Now, I told him that mosts cast have their own artists, and few
people would like outside artwork, but the bootleg of his artwork has set
him in his thinking.

I will admit that cutting the signature out was poor taste. But most casts
have their own artwork. MOst of them will do it all for free. For example, the
guy who did the artwork for my minicon flyer, Thumper. He didn't mind what his
artwork was used for. In fact, I put his artwork on some pretty bizzare
things, like an Ice Cream cake for example. And although they took out the
sig, he was ecstatic that his artwork was being recognized. His only criteria
of the artwork being used was that he get a copy of it to put in his portfolio.
If i were Jim I would take a chill and be happy that his artwork was cool
enough to be used by another cast, even without his permission. Tell me, do
you think that DaVinci would be upset today if he found out how many people
have painted copies of the mona Lisa or that it has been pictures in books tv
shows and cartoons so many a time. No, (asides from the fact that he is
deacying) he would be happy that so many people appreciated his work. I say,
what Jim should do is offer his artwork to be used by the public. It might get
him somewhere to be less greedy and selfish and to be more open and giving.

So then why didn't this guy just take his artwork and show it to the people at
his theatre and say "Hey check this out, they like my stuff all the way in
Virginia." And then put it in his portfolio and save it. If he wanted to get
recognition (which he should have done) he should have written to them saying
thank you for thinking my artwork was great but please don't edit the signature
off. Who knows, they meay have even put his letter and another drawing (more
glory and recognition) into the next newsletter.

This is weird. I never saw Vamp's follow-up. In fact, this is the
only follow-up I saw. Why is that? Someone tell me, becuse I am not all
that knowlegable of the net...
Anyway, Jim probably wouldn't be all that bent if he had seen his
artwork without his sig covered. He's a professional artist, and he (c)'s
everything. He has to. Obviously, because there are some people that have
no qualms about plagerism. If someone else takes credit for a Jim Dunn
origonal, his reputation can be hurt.
Listen, he is not trying to make money on this. He makes enough
selling panels to comic houses. What he wants to do is make it all legal
and stuff, and everyone is happy. We're not talking $25 bucks a panel here.
More like $5 including postage. (Don't quote me on the $, but 5 is more
realistic than 25, trust me.) If you order a panel from him, it's yours,
personalized to YOU theatre, and if a rival theatre uses the artwork too,
you can bitch and screem at them, and they look like assholes.
Jim Dunn is the most honest man in the world. He's also a great
guy, good friend, and incredable artist. You would be very wise to take
advantage of his offer.
