"Creatures of the Night"
The unsolved 1977 case involving the death of a Philadelphia doorman is
given a second look when Rush and Valens try to link his murder to a
serial killer about to be released from prison on a legal technicality.
Rating: TVPG-LV
Barry Bostwick guest stars.
Larry.
I think that depends on what happens in the last 5 or 10 minutes of the
show. How everything gets tied together. I watched the video snippet that
Randy posted, it's not much to go on, but this is what I get from it:
The Time Warp scene is obviously a flashback, I am assuming that Barry's
character is the virgin* with the audience member dressed as Janet (in a
pink proposal outfit, great research!) I'm guessing that Barry's serial
killer character is (hopefully) not a cast member, but just someone who
happend to go see Rocky that one night.
Just for the record, was Rocky actually playing in Philly in 1977?
Does this story line sound familiar to anyone else? I recall a reporter
wanting to interview a current cast about a former cast member that "had
some problems with the law". I'll go check rockynewsgroup.o....never
mind.;-)
*The virgin assumption comes from the fact that he is standing during the TW
not dancing or singing along. That and he has that "boy is this fun/what
the hell is this" look that many virgins have.

Time warp
By PETER D. KRAMER
THE JOURNAL NEWS
(Original publication: April 30, 2005)
He couldn't take the cold, but Barry Bostwick could take "Cold Case."
The longtime Rockland County resident this week sold his New City home
and moved his family to Malibu.
"Honestly, we couldn't take the cold anymore. My wife's from Florida and
I'm from California and it was a long winter for us."
Spring finds him settling into warmer climes, welcoming and dispatching
moving trucks, and back on TV. The star of "Spin City" guest stars on
the CBS time-bending crime drama "Cold Case" tomorrow night. (CBS, 8 p.m.)
The guest spot is a bit of a time-warp for Bostwick, too, as the show's
key plot device is 1975's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," one of his
first — and, doubtless, most memorable — films.
So "Cold Case" viewers on Sunday night will see Bostwick as Roy, a
50-something serial killer about to be paroled. Then, in flashbacks,
they'll see an actor playing the young Roy watching "Rocky Horror,"
starring a 29-year-old Bostwick as Brad Majors.
"I had to do it, because somebody had finally found a way to use the
'Rocky Horror' stuff in a really interesting and unique way. They're
using the show as an interlocuter, as a way to tie the whole thing
together, with the music and a few scenes from the movie."
And the guest spot allows Bostwick the chance to do something he's never
done: play a serial killer, prison jumpsuit and all. (OK, there was that
other one: 1988's TV movie "Body of Evidence.")
"Everybody's always used 'The Rocky Horror Show' as a fun platform for
goofiness. (The 'Cold Case' writers) found a way to make it sinister.
Truly sinister. ... My character, you see the genesis of his illness by
tracking back to when he was young and doing this whole 'Rocky Horror'
thing and the 'Rocky Horrror Show' is sort of a catalyst for his
insanity. He's like a fan gone wild, but he's not a fan. He's totally
put off by it."
Thirty years after the release of "Rocky Horror," a bizarre
cross-dressing cult favorite that co-starred Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry
(now on Broadway in "Spamalot") and Meat Loaf, Bostwick is amazed at the
movie's staying power.
"On a daily basis, (I) run up against people who for some reason,
recognize it. ... And I'm not wearing the bustier and size 10 1/2 high
heels. How do they do it?"

Anyone notice the inclusion of the audience lines during the theater
scenes, although it was pretty selective, but I give hats off to the
CBS guys, and this will certainly be a topic of discussion at this
week's RHPS showing.
Ron
I personally like the fact the Janet had a decent (not %100 accurate)
costume and
blew straight from wedding scene dress into Toucha. From what I was told
only
some scenes were done in the early days. Costumes weren't to the
exactitude they are now.
Remember, there was no DVD, no Movie Novel, no book of any kind to use
as a reference
in 1977. You literally had to do everything from memory. Hell, the
bootleg Beta I
don't think was even around in '77. And there was no way you could tell
the color of anything
from it.
This brought back a lot of the fun feeling of spontaneity and just plain
having a goof..
The use of the music was sweet! The ending credits were awesome.
I like the heavy set detective who appeared to know exactly what RHPS
was all about.
I kept thinking... I wonder if he played Eddie. Hehehehe.
Oh well. Just %100 enjoyable. I too thought there was a touch of
"Carrie" in this.
Just my $.02
Ron.
Well, I'm not sure if it's the one you're thinking of, but there was a
deal a few years ago here where the (non Rocky) drug dealer BF of one
of CC's members killed someone and tossed the body in the trunk of her
car - they tried to dispose of it by setting it on fire in a corn field
in Indiana. Needless to say, it didn't work. She's doing time now as an
accessory to it (actually, she may be out by now, I don't know). AFAIK
though, no serial killing was connected to that, though that's not to
say that they weren't looking at the guy for anything else. Gene's
photographic recall might be able to tell the story better...
I just remember as much as I was told at a Denny's at 4am half drunk...

We both thought it interesting how they pumped in songs from the
movie's soundtrack as background music for certain scenes...
Also, we noticed how a flashback scene was shot at The Rialto Theatre
in South Pasadena: when the mother is convincing(?) her son to marry
some girl he's into before he rushes into the theater and down the
aisle, you can easily recognize the lobby's antique water fountain
behind them--as well as the back rows o'the theater when he's heading
down the aisle...
We didn't see Barry at all; must have been when we were tuned in to
FOX. RHPS just isn't a priority for us anymore; new "Simpsons"
episodes are more important to us. Besides, we can always catch this
"Cold Case" in reruns. From what I've read via some of your posts, the
storyline not only proved interesting, but well thought-out and edited.
If only 20th Century Fox could do as much for their anniversary
conventions, eh? ;)
