Shock Treatment is the "sequel" to Rocky Horror. The only similarities
between the the two is that some of the characters are still there (Brad,
Janet, the Criminologist, and the Hapschatt's), and some of the same actors
are still there (Richard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell, Charles Gray,
and the actor who played Ralph Hapschatt).

Some people are of the opinion that ST is a better movie than RHPS, but to
each their own.

If anyone else wishes to contribute, please feel free.

I'll pretend you didn't use the "s" word.

>The only similarities
>between the the two

That's extremely debatable....there's a webpage somewhere (Cosmo's Factory
maybe? I don't remember) discussing the many similarities between the two.
Some of the more obvious are that they were both created by RO'B and directed
by Jim Sharman (not to mention the fairly numerous other folx involved in the
production of both.)

>is that some of the characters are still there (Brad,

Actually, the Criminologist isn't in Shocky....Charles Gray plays Judge Oliver
Wright...

My favorite similarity between Rocky and Shock Treatment is this:

Ya know Cosmo takes the keys to the convertable. After Macy is announced as
Miss Mental Health, Cosmo flips the keys at nation and says 'We never had a
Convertable." If you study the keychain, it's a red circle with a blue
lightning bolt on it. It's identicle to the flag on the castle in Rocky. It's
hard as hell to see, but after watching the movie so many times while we were
rehearsing it, we noticed it.

There's a couple "homages" like that in Shock Treatment. As Neely does
the opening to "Denton! Denton!" she's wearing a RHPS "lips" pin on her
jumpsuit (upside down). A one point when Betty & Oliver are in the "Denton
Dossier" office, there's a copy of Time magazine on the desk, with a RHPS
photo on the cover, for a story on "Cult Movies". The computer Betty uses
when checking up on the McKinley's refers her to file "4711".

it's not realy a sequil, but rather a completely unrelated film that simply
uses a few symbols and charactors from RHPS to get its anti-media point
accross... it is an alegory on cults, media, and corruption...

On a random note, one of the /only/ times I've ever gone to the imdb main
page (instead of just /search), their "movie spotlight of the day" (or
whatever) was Shock Treatment. Freaky.

Many years ago I bought the soundtrack album to Shock Treatment...on the
plastic wrap, there was a small sticker which described ST as "the further
adventures of Brad, janet and Richard O'Brian." That seems to fit.

Richard O'Brien was in it. I believe he directed it as well. I only saw it
once and that was about 10 years ago or more.. All I recall was a lot of talk
about Denton and virgins.. It was really stupid..I was very disappointed..

you know, it is possible to have a good movie without Curry in it ( matter
of fact it is also possible to have a very bad movie with Curry in it, i.e.
Legend)
as to the different people playing Brad & Janet
do you only watch Connery as Bond?

No, Jim Sharman directed it. Ritz composed it and co-wrote the screenplay,
tho' (or maybe he wrote it on his own this time? I can't remember.)

He wrote the screenplay with Jim Sharman. Addtional ideas were by set
desighner Brian Thompson. http://nominex.com/faq/ is a great resourse to
find out everything you need to know about Shock Treatment that hasn't been
said on this threat allready.

Speaking of pet peeves... I would just like to say that I absolutely despise
the sequel/prequel/equal nursery rhyme. It reminds me entirely too much of
the little rhymes they used to attempt to teach us in Sunday school. And on
a note that is actually related to this thread, Shock Treatment is the
further adventures of two of the surviving main characters of Rocky Horror.
In several horror movie sequals, it only takes one main character's further
adventures to merit the coveted title of sequel. Therefore I believe that,
while not containing the further adventures of some of the characters we
would have liked to have seen, Shock Treatment is indeed a sequel to The
Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Yes, too many things point to Rocky Horror in Shock Treatment.

Here are a few that I have noticed..

1. When Betty is looking through the old newspaper headlines on the
film clips, you see one that reads "UFO Spotted Over Denton".

IMHO, this points to the castle after it had taken off at the end of
Rocky Horror.

2. Betty & Ralph are now devoriced, the were married in Rocky.

3. During the "Little Back Dress" number, when they are in the
dressing room... look on the back wall, Franks cape is hanging
up.

4. During the "I'm Looking For Trade" Musical number, all the folks
are playing "Space Invaders II" machines, this infact represents
IMHO, that the Transsexuals are back in this movie.

5. Look at the audience during the "Denton" musical, half of them if
you look are infact the original Transilvanians who were dancing
the TimeWarp. Note the huge guy, was the same one was eating
the orderves at the table during the TimeWarp.

6. Brad & Janet are married now.... were not in Rocky.

The only folk who did not return, are Tim Curry, and (pardon me for not
knowing) the actor who played Dr. "Von" Scott.

At first I though it was Bert, but it is a whole different actor. (very classic
character though... my favorite in Shock treatment).

hors d'ouvres. I think. Something close to that anyway.

> The only folk who did not return, are Tim Curry, and (pardon me for not
> knowing) the actor who played Dr. "Von" Scott.
> At first I though it was Bert, but it is a whole different actor. (very

The part was initially going to be for Dr. Scott, but somewhere along the
line (I don't remember if it was because of creative reasons or casting
difficulties) the character became Bert. Hoopla!

Something else that's a more subtle reference... Betty and Ollie discuss
that Cosmo and Nation had a popular series in England that's still rerun
in many countries, and that perhaps he had seen them in Dentonvale, to
which he said that he never watched it. I think it can be (with a bit of
twisting and stretching) interpolated that the "series" is the original
RHS, which is still done all over the world, and Dentonvale is RHPS, which
Charles Gray has (or at least had at the time) never seen.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into things.
