Surprise Tesserecte Show Last Night

So, I was totally psyched to discover that the local casino, of all places,
was going to be showing Rocky Oct. 31st....
I found out about the show from my father's girlfriend, who works there,
about a week ago, right? So I go down the day before the show to see if
there's gonna be a cast, and ask about rules and stuff, but the guy at the
bar in the Cabaret where the show's going on doesn't know anything. As far
as he knew, there wasn't gonna be a live cast.
I show up tonight, sit down, and suddenly the lights go down low and people
come out to do preshows... wtf? And then I'm like, "Holy shit, I know those
people!" :-)
Apparently, on about 28 hours notice, the Tesseracte Players of Boston found
out that they were doing a Halloween show at the 300-something seat Cabaret
at the Mohegan Sun Casino down here in Connecticut. Probably one of those
"oh shit" moments, lol.
So after years of driving three hours up to Boston to see them, they finally
drove down here to see me, lol - The Mohegan Sun Casino is literally a
quarter mile from my house. (I could have walked there.)
The show went great. The place was packed, and there were more virgins than
they needed for the sacrifice. I was one of the last few people allowed in,
and they probably turned away about twenty or twenty five more. The
accoustics in the Cabaret are pretty good, there's a decent amount of stage
space, and overall, it's a bit classier place than your "typical" Rocky
venue. The audience seemed like they had a great time. After the show there
were lots of people asking to get pictures taken. There were also tentative
talks of performing agian next year.
It's been damn near a year since I've been to a show, and it was great to
get to see people I haven't seen in about four years. I'd like to thank them
for grabbing me out of the audience to play Betty - interestingly enough,
the first time I ever play Betty is two years after I retire from Rocky...
go figure, huh? lol. If that's not bad enough, this was also the first show
I've ever been to where I had an actual screen-accurate-ish Eddie wig. (I
never really wore one in the whole eight years I was performing with
RKO...).
After years of little success finding a decent black wig, I slapped a
Gandalf wig on my head, slid the part over to one side, and attacked it with
scissors, hairspray, and temporary hair color. Half an hour later, I had a
decent wig. The whole top of my head will be dyed black for the next few
days, but it was worth it.
Anyhoo, I had a hell of a lot of fun, and my voice will regret it tomorrow.
