So far i have been witness to an 80's night, a Batman night, a Monty Python
night, and countless Space Costume themes, but can anyone out there mention any
theme nghts for Rocky that really really went well. we have an upcoming
Horror, cartoon, and revenge of the 80's night at teaneck, but I want some new
stuff that has worked...

For Midnight Insanity, hosting Lingerie Nights every month has proven most
successful--not only with participation, but for good audience numbers as
well. We've also hosted things such as Psychedelic 60's Night, where we
dressed retro for that decade; Pimp & Hooker Night (be the Mac-Daddy and
bring your ho!); Disco Night--which was god-awful in my opinion, but seemed
to go over really well with our audience; and Monster Horror Night, where
everyone dressed in monster/creature garb--especially the main performers,
trying their best to depict alternate characters/personas for the parts they
play (think: Riff as The Hunchback Of Notre Dame). :)

For the Rebel Cast Alliance, formerly the Friday night cast of the
Montclair GCC Theatre in the early '90s... During the summers of '93 & '94,
we hosted Summer Specialty Nights each week from June through September.
Seeing as how it WAS during the warmer Summer months--and everyone who goes
to Rocky shows love to see lots of skin and more of it--we hosted a
Beach/Bikini Night once each month; had a '50s Night, which worked out very
nicely since some of the cast were in a local stage production of "Grease" at
the time; and even hosted Dead Celebrity Night (think: Kurt Cobain running
around with a toy shotgun and Sam Kinison screaming profanities).

Things to remember about theme nights is that the ones which go over the
best will be what the audience likes AND can get into. Themes where the
audience can dress up along with the cast may not always work, for many
regulars would rather watch than participate. However, along those lines is
where the ever-popular Lingerie Nights prove most effective. In fact,
anything that promotes sexy people showing a lot of skin throughout the
show--either on stage or amongst the audience itself--is basically a sure
thing. :)

I've seen a cartoon night, it would have gone better if the cast had
communicated and they all remembered that's what it was, i think the first
time I saw the show in petaluma they had a hula nite, in celebration of summer,
but i might be off...anyway, they passed out those hawian lai (sp) things and
we all got "laid" that was cute. Lingere nights are always fun....Oh, leather
and lace night was fun, the one i went to at least, way back in april of last
year. that's all my little brain can churn out right now.

I've been to or participated in many different themes including:
Disco night, Beach night, Lingerie night, Halloween in July (cast gets to dress
up in favorite costumes),Star Trek (with Ms. Froemming wonderful
costumes),Tacky Horror (all parts played opposite gender),Techie horror (actors
run props, Tech play parts).

The one show I tried to put on and would love to see is Nudie Horror with ALL
the actors nude (no one liked that idea!!)

Anyways thats my quarters worth!

One of my favorites was "Get Lei'd With Indecent Exposure Night"....all time
favorite and special thanks to Jaimie (for creating oodles of costumes in just
a week) were our Star Trek nights, especially with Guinan on roller blades,
interrupting our scenes with shots of Vodka...ok, so, by the end of the show we
were all a "little" drunk, but Jaimie's tap dance as Dr. Crusher (with
assistance from Brad / Data) was a showstopper!!!

A net.friend of mine who used to be on a cast in Louisville, Kentucky, was
telling me the other evening of their annual "Cocks and Socks Night." (Mind,
now, this predates the Chili Peppers poster by several years.) Every Halloween,
the men of the cast would go 'round the theatre wearing masks and the
aforementioned footwear, handing out candy during preshow.

The one idea we discussed, but never actually went through with, that I most
wanted to see was Generic Horror. White t-shirts, labeled "Scientist,"
"Creation," etc., and black pants. It would've worked great for a night where
we *knew* it was likely to be dead (holiday weekend in a college town, middle of
a local SF convention where everyone was still on the Party Floor getting drunk,
whatever).

Rob Ely and I did a Trixie routine down to socks. It was ok until Monique
Martin pulled my sock off towards the end :) but hell everyone (cast and

We've done some toga nites, and those are usually alot of fun. Also (of course)
gender switch nites, wear a hat nites, etc.

As a Techie, that seems almost scary... Were the cast in costume
running props etc.. as a cast of 10 black shirts and pants strut
across the stage ? ... hmmm ok It may have merit .....

A 'special' show I think would be funny would be a Puppet night,
where the actors grab someone out of the audience and stand
behind them holding on to their wrists and 'puppet' them around
the stage all night (maybe switching audience members every few
sceens)

from what i understand, it can be ever better than the actors, because
tech has all the cues down cold.

Or how 'bout a puppet night where some of the charachters are only
puppets? Brad could have a Janet puppet, Riff could have a Magenta
puppet and Frank could have a Rocky puppet. In the scenes where Rocky
and Janet are going at it, Brad and Frank could hide in the fishtank
and act out the scene like it was a puppet show! That would be kinda
cool.

I think your talking about being a feamale-feamale impersonator. Or a
feamale drag queen! Confusing, ain't it?
