Hello All,

I have recently resigned as cast director for Back Row Productions in
Charleston, SC due to relocating to Chambersburg, PA. Obviously the 2006
Rocky Con planned for Myrtle Beach, will not be happening. Perhaps I will find
someplace else to throw a con in the future, but for now, I have other things
that I need to do. For example, track down a theater and convince them to
show Rocky and to build another cast in small town America=-) So, if anyone
is near Chambersburg, PA and would be interested in being in a new cast,
please email me at magenta...@yahoo.com. I may not have the AOL account
for much longer.

Thanks,

Sooo, you're LYING to us! Your work is NOT done, merely relocated! Keep
spreading the love, my sister. I'm sure they'll miss you in the Back Row, but
heck, at least there's still the rest of the theater to attend to! ;)

SEE YOU IN VEGAS?????

Where the hell is Chambersburg? Never heard of it... And if I've never
heard of it, how the hell am I supposed to drive there when you do your
first show? ;-)

Oh man,

My g/f just moved out of that area, but there she still has a bunch of friends
from Shippensburg up there, and we'll be sure to pass on the word once a
theater gets goin. I know there's one in the mall, and a few in the Harrisburg
area you could check out through moviefone. Good luck!

Chambersburg is rather close to Sweet Translucent Dreams' territory, roughly I-
76 from about Harrisburg east to Allentown. The STDs do spot shows in the
area, including the Trindle Bowl bowling alley in Mechanicsburg.

Also nearby is the town of Mount Holly Springs, where something almost magical
happened in 1992-93 at a converted church...

Oh, I intend to. I think this time, I might actually try to get a cast
together *FIRST* and then talk to some theaters.

It's near Gettysburgh, PA and also near Hagerstown MD. Off of I-81 exit 14.
Although, I'm not sure where the theater will be yet=-)

Ok, I call from Harrisburg west to Pittsburgh =-) (joking)

I am planning on attending your next show in Mechanicsburg. David Driskell is
coming with me. I am very interested to see the bowling alley show live. I
have seen pictures of it, but that's not the same.

I'd like to hear more of this magic you speak of=-)
I have discovered a few small theaters in surrounding towns, the theater at
the Mall is Carmike first run. I'd like to try my like with a few
independants first.

There are only three cities in PA: (from east to west) Philly, Harrisburg, and
Pitt. If you don't live near one of them, you're in a field surrounded by cows
and people living without running water or electricity (like Angela stuck in
Lancaster). If you live in Camden/ Cherry Hill area NJ, you are actually from
Philly too. If you say you're from anywhere else, you might as well be
speaking Greek... or, in this case, Amish.

Yay, Gettysburg!!!!! One of the greatest memories of my life - the 8th grade
field trip to Gettysburg - about 40-something of us 13-and-14-year-old guys
and girls sneaking out of the motel in our pajamas in the middle of the
night to play Ghost In The Graveyard in a real Civil War graveyard... LOL
-And kissing Kerry What-the-hell-was-her-name, saying, "Miriam...", and
she looks at me and says, "Did you just call me someone else's name, you
fucking asshole???" And I replied, "No.. Look. Miriam. That's who's grave
we're making out on..." She never kissed me again, lol :-)

Hey, when's the next show in Mechanicsburg? If I'm free and have money, I
may bop down there... (I haven't hung with Mr. Driskell since, um, one of
the Allentown shows when the Loaf was in town...)

Here goes.
It's 1992, the year of the Great United Artists Screwjob. Some jerk named
Rodney Amsden injured a customer during RHPS at a UA theatre in Glen Burnie,
MD. As a result of the lawsuit, UA began dropping the movie from its East
Coast houses. One of the first to go was UA Capitol City in Camp Hill PA,
which was home to a long-running cast (I think they were called Lips Inc.).
The last of the UA's were killed on 11/7/92 (not including the one in NYC,
which would continue for another three years).

Later in the year, an independent operator took over a theatre in Mt. Holly
Springs PA, not far from Camp Hill. Holly Theatre, a converted church, became
south-central Pennsylvania's new home for "Rocky" and the former Camp Hill
cast.

Look at a map of PA. Mt. Holly Springs, south of Carmel, is little more than
a wide place in the road. Very rural, with no nightlife whatsoever. The kind
of burg that shuts down tight after dusk. It's not easily accessible from any
of the nearby highways, either (at least it wasn't in 1993).

Yet, somehow, Holly Theatre was reportedly jam-packed EVERY Sat. night at
midnight. Fans found their way to this podunk town and filled the pews --
sorry, seats -- for an evening of decadent fun. Hell, they probably doubled
the population up there, AT LEAST! And, at least at the one show I saw
(1/2/93), the cast delivered a fine performance. Holly was raking in so much
money that the RHPS MC was (reportedly) being paid for his services. And, ads
for the movie were spray-painted on the sidewalk outside.

It couldn't last.

The managers, I was told, were careless with the money they were making.
Also, I'm sure they didn't do too well with non-RHPS offerings...not enough
people living in and around MHS to support a second-run theatre. Finally,
there were problems with the conservative townspeople, who didn't take too
kindly to those noisy, oddly-dressed whippersnappers.

Holly Theatre closed down in the spring of 1993. However, for an all-too-
brief period, it was a "home of happiness" for Frankie fans.

Before the theatre went dark, Sal Piro was contracted to appear there in
October '93. Jeff Young (anybody remember him?) got Sal to switch that
booking to south Jersey's Harwan and the beloved Transducer Players. That
show, on 10/23/93, produced cherished memories for yours truly, some of them
having nothing to do with "Rocky Horror..."

I vaguely remember Jeff Young.
I -certainly- remember the Harwan. :)
