Lady Kitt takes her voluminous scribbled notes that she'd collected
from the many outstanding ideas and design suggestions from all the
wonderfully talented Cuddlers, and begins drawing up the blueprints
for the barn with attached silos, and the glass geodesic dome atrium,
with a breezeway walkway leading to a side entrance in the barn.

Landscaping plans follow for the flagstone paths, a hedge maze, and
the various edible plants and flowering plants to be well placed all
around the entire complex.

Finally finishing up by creating a materials list, Lady Kitt sends out
the order for materials and plants as well as furnishings to the home
and garden stores and waits for the deliveries.

In the meantime she begins baking up a storm in preparation for what
she hopes will be a wonderfully fun and productive project. Then she
writes up an invitation and runs out into the 'Meadow, posting it
everywhere she can think for the Cuddlers to see:

AN INVITATION TO ALL CUDDLERS (AND EVEN LURKERS!)

Dame Kitt is organizing a Barn Raising Party for
all Cuddlers and Lurkers who wish to join in the
fun of helping to build the new entertainment arts
complex she is locating out in the huge wildflower
field behind her cottage. All are welcome and all
help would be muchly appreciated in building this
newest center where all can enjoy dances, balls,
parties, poetry and literature readings, fine arts,
and just have a lovely complex where one can go to
relax in the peace and joy of nature along the
garden paths, through the maze, in the silo rooms,
up in the barn's main loft, or in the lovely glass
enclosed atrium with pool and butterflies and birds.

Construction of this rustic complex will begin
on Saturday, November 8th, 2003, at 10:00 A.M. EST.
All volunteers and visitors will be warmly welcomed
with beverages and scrumpdeliicious pastries and
cookies and brownies and pies and chocolates.

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

Having posted the invitation, Lady Kitt runs over to The Castle and
knocks on its massive doors, waiting for a response. Soon Sir Pluis
opens the doors and they greet warmly. Whereupon Lady Kitt asks
permission to use the Castle's folding tables, dishes and serving
pieces for the barn raising party.

Smiling hugely, Sir Pluis grants her request, and helps her to load
the items into huge carts for transporting over to Lady K's Cottage.
Arriving at the cottage they line up the carts in the back next to the
delivered materials near the wildflower field, then sit on her veranda
to rest and enjoy a lovely glass of lemonade and some cookies while
waiting for other Cuddlers and Lurkers to begin to appear.

Squirrel arrives totally unprepared, and too excited even to check out
the brownies, although a hurried zip or two of the lemonade focuses
the concentration.

So when is the concrete foundation being poured? has the rubble bed
gone down yet? Is there a cellar prepared? Building paper and
re-enforcing mesh?
Well when is it getting laid? Is the plumbing put in yet? Holes for
the piles?
Under floor heating? Well when is it getting poured? Do we all get
to put our paw prints in it? Huh? Huh? Huh? Begs put in paw
prints,...and a date?

Where do you want the herb garden? Can I plant it? (Jo helping of
course...or else Squirrel might put in the wrong thing or mislabel
it). maybe put in a water pump in middle of herb garden as a feature?

Wonderful! Hehehe, in all the planning I'd completely forgotten
tools. Sheesh. :-b

As the volunteers begin to arrive they hears the sounds of hammering
and saws and the whirring of a concrete mixer.

Hehehe, with the promise a 'leventy-seven hundred p*zzas, I as able to
bribe Locksley's CuddleElves to lend a hand. <g>

But of course! We can even draw a grid in the poured concrete floor
of the cellar and have each Cuddler put their prints in and write
their name and date below them. That would be sooo cool!

Oh boy, an herb garden! And a water pump would be perfect! How about
along the flagstone path from the glass geodesic atrium to the side
entrance of the barn?

I think an herb garden right along the edge of the deck off the

people relax on the deck.

"Wonderful!" Lady Kitt declares, and invites Mule to sit on the back
veranda of her cottage where she offers him and all of the other
volunteers some lemonade and cookies and brownies.

While they all sit around they continue filling in the fine details of
the plans for the complex, choose landscape plants, flowers and trees,
and begin to choose the type of furnishings for the barn, the barn's
loft, and its inside walls. Kitt then rolls out the landscaping plans
for Mule to look over. There are many details to iron out yet, with
different plants and flowers needed for inside the atrium, and outside
in the gardens surrounding the glass geodesic dome and the barn, plus
pond grasses and lilies for the small pond.

"Okay, now I think it's time to start putting together teams of the
volunteers, some for construction, some for decorating, and some for
landscaping needs," Lady Kitt suggests, and takes her clipboard and
scribbles out three sign-up sheets for the volunteers to choose from.

She attaches each sign-up sheet to a clipboard along with a pencil,
and begins to pass them around for the volunteers to decide which
activity each would prefer.

And since someone must keep the volunteers fed and the hot and cold
drinks flowing, Kitt volunteers herself to do the kitchen duty, and
begins setting up the folding tables and lots of chairs, and runs into
her pretty little cottage's kitchen to start whipping up more batches
of pies and cookies and brownies and pastries.

Afterwards she elicits the help of Mule and Treebeard, and they erect
a very large open air canopy tent to house the central feeding
station. Soon she sets the Castle's beautiful serving pieces around
the tables piled high with the lusciously fresh baked goodies. Then
she fills various drink coolers and heated urns with lemonade, iced
tea, chocolate milk, hot chocolate, tea and coffee, and sets one table
exclusively with all the plates, mugs, glasses and silverware that
they'll be needing.

Finally she calls the volunteers around to chow down on the
scrumptious feast to nourish themselves for the major work ahead.

lemonade and cookies, then takes the wonderful pegs and adds them to

Squirrel eyes the brownies with extreme desire out of corner of eye,
alls the while turning pretty little nose away. Not fair squirrel
sighs. Squirrel is unfortuneately still on diet due to a non-climb
claim by most of the trees. Something silly like restrictions on live
loads, and maximum live weight quotas. Squirrel would ignore silly
rules but a bit afraid of another tree falling over if did.

But I think we're up to 8 people now! Large project? Nah. Don't
forget, this is the Magical Realm, inhabited by mystical people. :)

Kitt looks over to where fmomoon is unloading tools from the Starship
and waves her over. Then she looks around and spies Synny, and waves
to her as well.

"Treebeard is concerned about this being a very large project for so
few people to build," Kitt explains to her cohorts with a wink.

A knowing look passes between fmomoon and Synny, and they chuckle
softly under their breaths.

"Ladies, shall we show him our stuff?" Kitt asks with a grin and
wanders over to the piles of fieldstones.

Looking intently at the large stones Kitt allows her concentration to
float free, then raises a hand slightly and waves it over the stones.
In unison, as if performing a choreographed dance, the stones hover
and encircle the prepared foundation and cellar for the barn, aligning
themselves perfectly according to size and shape. As the others
watch, one by one the stones settle one on top of the other in a
perfect fit, until the three foot fieldstone wall base is completed
for the wooden barn to be built upon.

Turning back to Treebeard, Kitt smiles mysteriously, then turns to
Synny. "You're up, Lass!" she calls.

Looking over at fmomoom, a knowing look passes between them again, and
Synny steps forward and waves a hand gently over the last remaining
pile of fieldstones, mouthing words so softly that none can hear but
the stones themselves. And one by one the stones begin to float and
hover, then drift towards the long west side of the barn where they
align themselves perfectly according to size and shape and begin
fitting themselves together at the center of the foundation stone wall
and continuing upwards and inwards in a prescribed shape. In no time
the huge fieldstone fireplace is constructed with the chimney soaring
much higher up than what will be the roofline of the barn.

Turning back to the others, Synny smiles serenely at Treebeard, then
nods knowingly at fmomoon, who steps forward grinning ear to ear.

Looking over the piles of timbers for framing and barnboards for
finishing the walls of the barn, fmomoon lifts her hand which is
holding her wand, and waves it gently over all of the wooden plankings
and framing timbers. One by one they begin to float and hover, then
move like marching soldiers around the perimeter of the fieldstone
foundation, then begin mingling like lincoln logs. One by one the
timbers build the frame for the barn's sides and roof until the last
piece remains.

But the last piece keeps hovering and hovering as if lost and unsure
where it fits. With a grunt of irritation fmomoon waves her wand
again, more vigorously, when suddenly a blue puff of smoke shoots out
its end! Within seconds all of the framing timbers transform into
huge toothpicks, and the whole construction tumbles down in a heap of
pointy sticks as they all gasp in astonishment!

"Ack!!!" Kitt acks as she turns to fmomoon. "I thought you'd fixed
that thing!" she cries, pointing to the Music Witch's errant wand.

Knowledge of what is does not open the door directly to what should be.
If one asks the whence derives the authority of fundamental ends, since
they cannot be stated and justified merely by reason, one can only
answer: they exist in a healthy society as powerful traditions, which
act upon the conduct and aspirations and judgements of the individuals;
they are there, that is, as something living, without its being
necessary to find justification for their existence. They come into
being not through demonstration but through revelation, through the
medium of powerful personalities. One must not attempt to justify them,
but rather to sense their nature simply and clearly. - Albert Einstein

fmomoon thwaps the not so lovely magic conductor's wand, gives it a stern
look and whispers "kindling" to the wand. fmomoon blushes and shrugs her
shoulders.

Not sure that would be possible. That wand has a mind of it's own, not
unlike it's keeper. :)

Dear Kitt,
Now, that sounds like a lot of fun to me. It has been like forever... ...but I
can side and shingle, build the tressels, lift and haul.
I am not the one to set the sills.

I am sure Lumberjack and Windjammer will be glad to help hauling timber. If Sir
Jon is about I am sure Kerril 'the Great' will help.

"Hehehe, not a problem," Kitt laughs. "I think we've got plenty of
duplicate blueprints around to use. A minor hiccupping, that's all
your wand had."

Fmomoon grins and takes a hanky out of her pocket and begins wiping
the blue smoke residue off her wand, when suddenly it starts vibrating
so violently it nearly jumps out of her hand! Another puff of blue
smoke shoots out towards the stack of oversized toothpicks, causing
them to start march on end as if to the music of a marching band!

Everyone steps back in amazement as the sticks transform back into
timbers and align themselves once again, interlocking into a huge
frame for the barn and roof, which disappears from sight as the
barnboards attach themselves one by one, until the entire structure is
finished at last.

With a perfectly nonchalant grin, fmomoon declares, "Piece of cake."

Causing the others to collapse on the ground in gigglefits!

Most excellent! *thank*you*hugs*

Now that the barn is finished the next phase will be building the
veranda along its sides, and the huge deck off the kitchen area with
its decking walkway leading down to the brook. And, of course, the
covered bridge over that. I'll gather together the construction team
and we'll tackle that next. :)

As the construction team pours the foundation for the huge glass

Wonderful! The barn construction is finished and ready when you are.
By the time you finish that the deck and veranda will also be ready

Cool! Let's get all the construction work out of the way, then we can
start on landscaping the surrounding areas, plus planting for the

Treebeard stands ready to raise anything at least 100 feet high if needed.
He can reach higher but is there a need to do that? Being a tree herder one
has to be tall enough to see over them.

Moni..on the Today Show there was a song from the new Broadway

Well! I'm impressed. You actually made that look easy, and all we
need do now is let the groundwater seep in and fill it up, plus
temporarily divert some of the brook's waters to speed up the process.
Bravo!

A loud motorized vehicle approaches the group from behind, and they
all turn to see Sir Alex sitting in the operator's seat of the crane.
Section by section the dome's odd shape forms as the glass structure
is assembled expertly. Finally the last hexagonal glass insert is in
place and all fittings are checked for integrity, and Alex waves as he
cranks up the crane's motor and drives it away from the buildings
until needed again.

"Wonderful!" Lady Kitt calls and claps. "Now we can move in the trees
and plants, and build the Koi pool and the hot tub!"

Wonderful! We've still to build the huge deck and decking walkway
down to the brook, plus the veranda wrapped around the barn. We'll
have Treebeard herd some more trees for materials for that part of the
construction.

What a nice idea!

Lady Kitt follows with her hand prints, then discretely transforms
into the white wolf and sets paw prints underneath her human prints.

Below her prints she writes "Be Ever Young at Heart"

A silo is best for yelling and getting loud echos when one is a small child.
So, these silos must be built with an eye, ear, on sound quality. A silo is
also vertical space that must have some access other than just a ground
floor door if anyone other than a tree herd is going to use it. Even
Squirrel might find climbing all that height tiring.
Treebeard takes ledges from the mountains and shapes them into blocks some
of equal sizes and some of a couple courses of large and larger blocks. He
then takes some bright red rock blocks begining with the smallest and
continuing around in a circle with progressively larger blocks until he has
a full circle that looks a little like a circular ski slope. Polishing the
stone to a smooth high gloss on all except the inside side there is not room
to fit a piece of paper between the blocks and only an occasional opening
for a door or window. This will create a silo in the same way one would
create an igloo with each layer of stone leaning in until the top layer is
in place with a keystone holding the arch in place. The pressure holding
the silo together comes from compression of the walls against each other and
the transference of the weight through the walls to the ground. Gravity
holds everything together basically.
Treebeard goes to a second corner and arranges a layer of stones of equal
size in a circle but on the next layer he starts the circle in a different
place so no two blocks have ends falling over the ends of the blocks in the
layer below them. In this way the forces trying to reach the ground are
spread out through the whole building so no section of the wall becomes
unstable and falls over on its own. If you build a stack of blocks with the
blocks in an even straight line they are unstable but if you lay the bricks
so that the ends are staggered the forces at the end of each brick are sent
into the one below it.
In the third corner, Treebeard takes whole trees and, after smoothing the
sides so they fit tightly together, he places them next to each other in a
circle with tree butt to tip so the silo is as tall as the trees. It is
also possible to wedge the tree logs into each other to make it twice as
high but if you do that it will collapse as the force of gravity pushes the
columns of logs down into each other spreading them apart.
That means we still have one silo to build but what should we build it out
of and since we only have a shell for the three standing we can change
anything you want and we need an interior decorator. What do you want it to
look like and do you like the three different silos or would you prefer a
standard plan? Anyone want to help with that?

Yay!!!!!!!!!!
Shadowblade rushes over but finds hiomslef behind a large blob of cuddlers all
trying to put their paws in.
"Well, we can't have this anarchy. Ah-hem!"
At the sound of a mage's voice the cuddlers scatter in order to avoid being the
targets of any magical mishap.
"That's better" Shadowblade walks calmly over and places his hand in the
cement. While doing so, he whispers a soft spell. After he removes his hand the
cement there hardens and a small plate of cream puffs appear. "These will
always be here for those who need them" he says and makes way for other
cuddlers to place their hands.

Treebeard places leaves in the concrete so that they over time will become
fossilized and draw good dream energy to the building. In hidden areas of
the building covered by walls he leaves one nut of each kind so that life
will always permeate the whole area. A nut even if eaten will leave that
energy behind. One does normally eat the shell do they?

One does not herd trees for building materials unless one wants ones
building falling apart. One uses dead trees that have aged and dried lumber
because live wood with the sap still in it will shrink and crack as the
water evaporates from it. You will be able to cut the soft green wood
easily and bore through it and carve it for a joint and put all that weight
on it and then it will shrink and come apart and the load bearing members
will allow you to bear the load.
If needed the trees might be willing to bring in some old fallen timber
dried out over a few years as those trees died naturally back then. There
are also downed limbs scattered about that can make good lumber and some of
it is of good size.

Hokay! Lessee, what's the status of the construction....

The Barn: Thanks to the magical efforts of our wise yet sassy and
flirtatious witches, fmomoon and Synny, the barn structure is built
and ready for finishing inside.

The lower level floor will be a nice hardwood, well polished,
perfect for dancing. There will be plenty of chairs and tables for
around the dance floor, and one large corner of the main dance area
will have a semi-circular raised platform for the bands. The kitchen
area will be equipped with commercial sized appliances plus huge
cupboards for storage, and all the wonderful pots and pans, utensils,
flatware and dishes, serving dishes, and anything else needed for
cooking up a storm for special occasions or for just intimate
gatherings or barbecue parties. Plus powder rooms, naturally.

The upper level, or "loft", of the barn will be finished with
huge area rugs and plush chairs and tables for cuddlers to enjoy
relaxing in between dances, or just to gather for tea parties or
lounging. The furnishings will need to be chosen, plus wall hangings
and lamps and other decorations. There will be various built-in
cabinets along the walls for storage for things like board games, plus
a stereo system for loft level musical enjoyment.

The Silos: Thanks to the lovely design and construction efforts of
Treebeard, the Soft Owl Woodsman, the silos are nearly finished and
ready for finishing touches.

Lady Kitt thinks it would be a grand idea to have two of the
multi-storied silos finished at each story with intimate sitting
alcoves with easy chairs and tables and lamps. Bookcases will offer
quiet time reading pleasure for the cuddlers, and a cold drinks bar in
the topmost level will prove soft drinks and snacks.

One silo might become a museum for CuddleLand treasures and
mementos, with the walls all the way up surrounding the winding
staircase displaying portraits of all cuddlers past and present, with
name plates beneath their portraits. The topmost level of the silo
will house the actual museum portion with treasures and mementos
displayed in lovely wood and glass cases. Donations to the museum's
collection are most welcome!

And the final silo is still a question mark: All suggestions
welcome!

Taking the time to consult the blueprints and construction and
landscape plans, Lady Kitt organizes the work yet to be done.

Outside the Barn:

Along the two long sides of the barn between the silos will be
deep, shady and cooling verandas. Wooden chairs, rockers, and porch
swings will grace the verandas along with tables for enjoying pleasant
afternoons and evenings, or even catching a sunrise or sunset.
Hanging planters will be hung along the overhang of the verandas'
roof, and filled with several different kinds of flowering plants to
attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Between the two silos at the back of the barn we'll construct a
huge raised deck for outdoors entertaining and barbecues. In that
area at the back of the field the land slopes gently down to the
brook, which divides the wildflower field from the woods beyond, so a
decking walkway will be constructed from the deck down to the brook,
with a small covered bridge crossing over the brook. There will be
benches along the insides of the covered bridge for seating.

The Pond:

Thanks to the explosive genius of Shrek, the Cuddleninja, we now
have a lovely outdoors pond in the field to the right of the front of
the barn, in the stretch of field at its back between the barn and the
glass geodesic dome atrium. Currently a portion of the brook is being
diverted to fill the pond. Then it will be reading for our landscape
experts to plant the various pond grasses and lilies and shrubs which
will support pond life. Hopefully they will attract frogs, turtles,
ducks and geese, as well as damsel flies and fireflies.

The Glass Atrium:

Thanks to the heavy equipment expertise of one of our oldest
KiTA's, Sir Alex Kovnat, the frame and glass structure of the geodesic
domed atrium is now complete, and the cuddlers are placing their paw
and/or hand prints in the concrete foundation before it dries
completely.

Following that our landscapers will be free to begin planting the
lush indoor garden's shrubs and trees and walkways and paths which
will create the tropical atmosphere within the atrium. A Koi pond
will be built and will have a small water fountain feeding it, along
with lovely flowering lily pads floating along it's edges. Back in a
densely shrubbed corner of the atrium, for privacy, the hot tub will
be located along with a small cabana where the cuddlers can get drinks
and snacks.

The Maze:

Standing and facing the front of the barn, the field to it's
left, or East side, will provide the perfect acreage needed to create
an elaborate maze. As per the excellent suggestion by the
Cuddleninja, the extensive maze will be carved from mature boxwood
plants. There will be hidden little alcoves with garden bench seats
and small water fountains for cuddlers' enjoyment as they wind their
way through the maze, as well as hidden garden walls within the dense
shrubbery to be discovered. The secret walls will have small gates or
doors in them leading to secluded floral fairy gardens.

General Landscaping:

In addition to the maze and ponds and atrium, floral gardens will
be planted on either side of the flagstone walkways winding their way
in and about the entire complex. An herb garden will be planted at
the base of the barn's huge deck, and vegetable gardens as well.
Fruit trees will be planted everywhere along with date trees and
avocado trees, making the entire garden landscape edible.

"Hmmmm," Lady Kitt muses. "Wonder if I forgot anything? There's so
much we can do with this plan, just about any new ideas will be
welcome and will enhance the future enjoyment of the complex!"
