THE
SCIENTIFIC
PROOF OF GOD
Today I saw a television ad offering DRAGON NATURALLY
SPEAKING 10, for half price. This is a speech recognition
typing program which usually sells for $100.
Has anybody here ever used this program to dictate a book?
Do you think I could dictate at least a rough draft, of my
book using speech recognition? For $50 it sounds like a
bargain since it is a very well known brand of up to date
hi-tech software.

I haven't used Dragon, but my laptop with Vista came with Windows Speech
Recognition which I used to write a screenplay.
It was incredible...not having to pause your brain to wait for your fingers
to catch up.

What happens if you talk too fast?
does it make a lot of errors?
I ordered Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 from Amazon and
waiting for it to arrive by mail.
By the way what make of processor is in your computer?
My computer has an AMD 3400+ processor.... which I think is
just barely big enough to run Dragon?
Do you think speech recognition is a magic cure for
"writer's fatigue"?
The program is fast...was never a problem. Cool to watch a sentence complete
itself after you've finished speaking. There's an introduction to go through
where it learns your voice. My kids can't use it. Not that I wouldn't want
them to, but I'm it's master. They speak, and it spews gobbledygook. Once it
starts to learn your style, it's like a 3rd arm. It knows what to do, such
as, uses the correct version of "their" ( or "there", or "they're"), where
necessary.
Will it beat fatigue? By eliminating having to go back and correct spelling
mistakes, and letting your brain concentrate on writing...as opposed to
typing...fer sure.

Thanks for the info. My copy of Dragon N.S.-10 has been
shipped from Dover N.H. to me in MA via UPS, so I should get
it on Tuesday the 8th after Labor Day.
I'll let you know how I make out. I may have to add some
more memory... no big problem. I just hope the AMD 3400+
processor has enough muscle to tame the Dragon, and I hope I
don't keep the neighbors up talking to my computer all night
dictating a 300 page book!
