I guess it's been like 10 years since I dropped by here. I see some
familiar names, but a lot seem to be missing.

Hello to any and all who might remember me.

I think I finally get these lyrics:

Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight
and I'm going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it
but I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
a little of the glory of, well time slips away
and leaves you with nothing mister but
boring stories of glory days

Hey Wim.

Maybe we can get this group going. I haven't been to the Universe in
years. I've really gotten into photography. Are you still doing China.

I'm doing China alright but looking forward to retirement.
All my clients are slowly but certainly replacing purchasing staff.
They are young and know what to do, how to change things. Going to do it
better. Not in need of old fart like me. They can cut out the middle man.

It takes between 3-6 months before they admit that just maybe we do have
a good point in what we are doing. That's costing them plenty.

Personally spent most of my time near Halifax, Nova Scotia where my wife
lives.

I have my images selected, but the site is not up. There are some links
to some of my trivial images:

You can see some of my images though at:

Some altered reality

My three images in this category have done reasonably well in local
competitions.

To answer both at once:

We're okay, but thanks to the earthquake, have no business left. All of
the major US companies moved their main operations to Shanghai, Hong
Kong or Singapore and left minimal office support in Tokyo. Around
540,000~600,000 foreigners left and less than 60,000 returned. Most of
them were English teachers.

I had just been hired to be president of a Japan startup of a US corp
and was supposed to be meeting a couple of Board members and the
corporate president the weekend of the earthquake to sign my contract.
They didn't come (obviously) and told me they'd decided to hold off for
90 days. They then canceled the project completely and the only way I
found out was reading the news release on the company website. They
never responded to my e-mails requesting clarification.

I love American B-school grads. Such courageous people.

Other than that, we continue to trip along.

I suspect you've heard my opinion on the B school management game. They
all learn and practice. All, practice it, except for the ones who have
the common sense not to drive 70 mph when there is a light coating of
snow on the road.

Hello Wim, Peter, Peter and Charlie,

Things are well here. I'm back in the US (Philly area) and doing
electrical contracting. Electrical was the most lucrative thing I
could find when I returned after fifteen years as an American without
domicile, credit history or connections. I have two kids now, an 18 yr
old stepson and a three year old daughter.

I have to say that groups.google.com is an awful way to connect, but
it works. Are there still any free usenet servers out there?

Wim, I checked out the forums you linked to and I 'm guessing Jan is
the same one from here. It didn't look like there was much in the way
of freestyle discussion though... Maybe I looked in the wrong place.

True. Google groups is a pretty desperate way to get your Usenet,
especially if you're trying to discuss anything in realtime. I
currently subscribe through Eternal September, the former mozarella.org
out of Germany and it works reliably. It is free, which is the best
price for a cheapass like me.

I love that picture of the skimmers.

Glad to hear your family is growing and healthy. We have three
grandchildren, with twelve legs between them.

This Usenet server is almost free. They charge a one time fee of $3.95
<http://www.teranews.com/>
the speeds may be a tad slow, but it beats Google Groups.

Enjoy lief in Philadelphia.

The closest we have come is a visit to the Johnson Sculpture Garden,
last year.
It's a great place to introduce kids to the arts.
You can get in free if you first have lunch in their restaurant. It has
a bad name, (Rats,) but the food is good.

A nice variety. I like your landscapes, particularly the Beach at
Charmouth. Does the term "fossils" refer to the guy with a cane, or the
remains of Jurassic creatures that can be found there?

This reminds me of the snail who, after being drop-kicked out the
door, turned up a year later asking, "What did you do that for?"

Hope you're both in good shape. What are you up to these days? Didn't
you re-locate?

I'm currently in teh ATL, and Jan is in the hinterlands of CA.

In course, we both landed upon both our feets.

The song remains the same, but the key has changed.

Out tonight with my Sister on a visit from the hinter-hinterlands of CA;
four years is far, far too long for caring siblings, but it will do.

What news have you from PeterM-central?

Active retirement, so no longer working for HP (damn their eyes).

We moved close to the south coast a few months back to be nearer the
younger contingent of the family so we now get to see a good deal more
of them, which is good.

I'm taking photographs again, only this time around it's me that
chooses the subjects.

Are you still in the same line of work? Where are you to be found on
line these days? I must admit to being mostly on Facebook myself.

Pass on my best wishes to Jan.
