i actually make them for a living, make sure you buy a decent (expensive)
one because the ones at the cheaper end of the market are absolute crap,...i
know! wouldn't let the dog sleep on some of them

Been looking myself...Makro have a Makromail offer..Double Miracoil
'Ultimate' matresses for £89.99+vat (RRP £199)

Personally, I have gone for a memory foam mattress (Similar to a
Tempur) from eBay. People seem to rate the memory foam jobbies quite
highly so I thought I'd give them a go. Instead of buying it from a UK
supplier I have gone for a supplier in mainland Europe. Yes, the
postage is more expensive but the overall cost is far, far cheaper
than I could get one in the UK.

Please follow up and let us know what it's like once you've taken delivery.
We've been considering a Tempur type mattress, and I'm reluctant to shell
out £1k for one, even if it is only 27p a night if the thing lasts 10yrs.

Expensive? That could be a crap one over-priced, whereas we're looking for
a good one discounted.

Given your inside information, what should we look at paying for a good king
sized mattress for instance?

because i cant find the page, i cant advise you on price but anything you

I've got 2 young kids. A third is distant memory, it's typically a quarter,
but was an eighth the night before last. ;-(

Thanks for the advice though.

If you mean the Miracoil one it's on www.makro.co.uk under
"makromail".

As promised here is a review of the mattress which arrived a few days
ago.

As I think I said previously I bought it on eBay from a German company
called "concept-wohnen-gmbh". They have a feedback rating of over 3000
and over 99% so I considered it to be a pretty safe bet.

(There is another company called "knowhow11" which are selling
identical products and also have a high feedback.)

A good tip is to check out their products that are priced in Euro or
Swiss francs on eBay as these don't seem to attract many UK
bidders...identical mattresses priced in £s seem to attract higher
prices. Maybe it's because the British are used to paying higher
prices, who knows?

I paid just a tad over £100 and have seen identical ones on eBay go
for around £200 when priced in £s!

One thing to note is that not all the mattresses they sell contain
memory foam so it's important to check it contains viskose/viscose
memory foam before bidding, if that's what you are after. Generally
the auctions of memory foam mattresses will have a picture of a hand
imprint left in some memory foam. Email the seller to check if in
doubt.

UK double mattesses are generally 135x190...European mattresses are
generally 140x200. However, "concept-wohnen" happily agreed to send a
135x190 in place of the 140x200 that I successfully bid on!

Anyway, I bid on an won a mattress and after receiving an invoice sent
the money to the seller by Paypal. Shipping from Germany was £35 for a
double (£16 single) but even taking this into account I feel it was
cheaper than the equivalent mattress in the UK, taking delivery into
account.

The mattress arrived 5 working days after winning the auction! The
mattress arrives vacuum packed and rolled up in a cardboard box that
was about 5'x18"x18". (Why can't all mattresses be shipped this
way-it's so convenient?)

After you remove the mattress from the box you are left with a shrink
wrapped roll which when opened makes a really satisfying hisssss as
the air gets sucked into the mattress. It's quite an incredible sight
to see this thing grow in front of your eyes in a matter of minutes.
After leaving the thing 24 hours (as recommended) the mattress is
ready to use.

First impressions, (We have only had it a couple of nights) is that it
is really comfortable and already my back has improved. Having said
that it is a different sleeping experience to a sprung mattress. When
you initially lie on it it feels quite firm but you sink into the
mattress fairly quickly and it conforms to the shape of your body. I
couldn't honestly say how it compares to a tempur as I have never
tried one but it is far more comfortable than our four year old sprung
mattress.

It is supposedly guaranteed for 12 years although I'm not sure how
you'd ship it back for replacement!

To sum up IMHO the mattress is well worth what I paid for it. Indeed I
could probably have re-sold it on eBay and made a profit. Delivery was
fast and the mattress is of good quality. Quite how it compares to a
£1000 Tempur I wouldn't like to say but I'd sincerely hope that the
Tempur was better...if not then Tempur customers are getting severely
ripped off.

If you are thinking of biding then I'd suggest bidding on the auctions
priced in Euro as they tend to reach a lower price that the ones
prices in £s. I'd also suggest that you don't get tempted to bid too
much. Apparently they shift 1000s of these mattresses on eBay so if at
first you don't win don't worry as there'll be more for sale next
week.

To sum up...this mattress for £100 or a Tempur for £1000 then I'd but
this one and spend the £900 saved on a holiday!

Any questions then fire away...

<snip helpful comments>

Here is a link to auctions by your seller:

Thanks for the interesting review. Do you feel you're sleeping more
deeply? Do you feel more rested when you wake up? How thick is your
mattress? Do you know what density foam it is? Do you just lay it on top
of your sprung mattress, or is it resting on a bed base? If so, is that
sprung or slats? Did it come with a cover or do you just lay your sheets
on it?

Well you did say "any questions..."

Thanks again

Hi Sponix,
I'm just about to get myself one of these. Was it a double you got for £100
???
I am after a single, and the cheapest I can see (in euros) is the equiv of
£126 + delivery ?
Am I missing something?
Any help appreciated,
Thanks
Daniel

Yes.

Yes. Having said that our old mattress was *really* uncomfortable so
anything would be an improvent!

I would say that it feels quite firm when you initially lay on it but
is confortable nonetheless.

> How thick is your mattress?

Nor measured it but normal thickness..I suppose it's around 7 inches
thick.

> Do you know what density foam it is?

Not a clue

> Do you just lay it on top

It's an actual mattress rather than a 'topper' so it's resting on a
bed base.

>If so, is that sprung or slats?

Slats.

> Did it come with a cover or do you just lay your sheets
>on it?

No cover, it's just like a normal mattress. We have an underblanket
type think on it then a sheet on the top.

>Well you did say "any questions..."

It's the same construction as the one here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20479&item=4313516460&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Really when choosing a mattress you should try it out in the shop to
see if it is right for you. Unfortunately you can't do that in this
case so obviously there is the risk that you'd buy it and not like it.
