Hi

Just rang Orange about getting a Nokia N70 unlocked. They wanted £20 and
said it will take 7-10 days. Looking for something quicker and hopefully
cheaper. Can anyone advise?

Thanks.
Qbert

Ps. I will try the telecoms groups too but my experience is that the people
in this group are usually on the money. Cheers.

Any corner/independant phone shop will be able to unlock your phone for
aprox Ł10 there and then

Unfortunately I don't have one of those near me. Also judging from what I've
read online it seems the N70 and the other phones in the N range are not
that simple to unlock. Anyone confirm or deny?

Take a look for bb5_unlocker. Heres a thread to get you started,

http://nokiafree.org/forums/t82446/s.html

You use the cable that came with the phone.

Worked for me

I wish this were true of all phone handsets. My old Samsung was a tenner at
my local market done on the spot in 2 minutes. But with my Sony Ericsson
K800i one place wanted £45, another wanted £50 with the cherry on top being
I had to lose the phone for a week minimum as they posted the phone to
London to get it unlocked!

If anyone knows a cheaper option in the West Midlands please chip in! :-)

At least it's now possible since Dejan released his unlocking solution for
certain BB5 handsets.

Some people have reported success using a DKU2 cable, but we've found
numerous communication issues using that approach.

If it's voda or orange it's only £20 from the network!

It's locked to Orange but I want to use a Virgin simcard, would it still be
worth my while calling them? I've never found Orange customer service to be
the best, to be honest.

There's discussion of Dejan's method at various forums on the net.
e.g.

I've just ordered a DKU-5 (Usb/Serial cable) for £4 from someone on
ebay. To try unlocking my N70s

Same here. Read the forum notes then purchased the cable for around £4 inc
p&p off ebay and unlocked both our N70s. Both were with 3UK and have since
been debranded again using free software available on the web. Many thanks
to Dejan and others.
