Did anyone buy the KH2380 MP3 Car Radio from LIDL a few weeks ago?

If so, do you get all three red lights lit on the unit even when the
car is turned off (The lights are only seen once the face light is
taken off)
There is three lights, one on the eject button for the CD, one just
under the CD Slot and one flashing light, like those seen on car
alarms.
I wondering because on my FIAT Punto (Mk 2) I've noticed since
installing the radio (replacing for a JVC) that the car battery seems
to run down quickly and have just tried to start the car only to find
it won't.
I was thinking it was the battery which was 6 years old, so that has
been replaced now with a Bosch Silver battery which I charged on a
bench over night before installing.
Didn't seem to have any problem with the JVC, although in previous MK1
Punto had a problem with a Sony Car MiniDisc player discharging the
car's battery but that only happened when I forgot to remove the
facelight. In this case the Silvercreast Face Lift had been removed.
If anyone bought the same unit from Silver Crest would be good to hear
if all those lights stay on even when the car is off and if anyone has
had similar problems.

Are you sure you've got the wiring right?
In the dim and distant past, when I had a Fiat Cinqeucento, I recall
there being some 'jumper' lead that needed swapping over in the ISO
block to ensure the radio was switched with the ignition. Could be worth
investigating.

I have no idea, there's two standard looking plugs that fit into the
radio and that's what I plugged in. As I said had a JVC radio in there
for several years and on an old battery and no problems at all.
I shouldn't think I need to do any manual swapping.
You can operate the unit with the face lift in and the ignition off,
although you cannot get any power from the ciggie lighter socket unless
you turn the key to the first position.
I'm hoping the kind of people that read this group tend o buy the
bargains at LIDL from time to time and there must be a few people that
bought this MP3 player, it was a very good deal. But the lights are
only LED's so can't imagine they're putting that much load on the car
battery when not in use.
Just a thought
On my wife's old Punto, I had to swap two wires around in the wiring loom.
It may be you have the vehicles constant + connected to the accessory + on
the radio side. Which would explain why the lights are staying on.
I know the wiring looms are meant to be an industry standard but it
definitely wasn't on the Punto or indeed with a Sony unit I had in a Passat.
Steven.
Hi,
Where did you managed to find out which wires to swap over?
Does this mean once swapped over you cannot any longer use the unit
unless the key is turned? And also will it mean the flashing red LED
that makes it looks like you have a car alarm will no longer flash?
That feature I quite like.
There are two red wires (although one has a stripe on PIN 4)
I have a picture though this should help?
http://i14.tinypic.com/2lcpekn.jpg
I experimented with the PIN by covering them with paper to block them
from making contact to see what would happen - results given on the
picture.
Also notice how some wires are thick and some are thin
Can anyone give further advice now based on this picture?
Pin 4 should be connected to an unswitched supply line.
Pin 7 must be connected to a *switched* supply line - eg is only live
when the ignition switch is turned.
From your description, you have Pin 7 connected to a permanently on
supply line. It may be that the line is going via relay contacts that
have fused together. This would give the problems you describe. If this
is the case, replacing the relay should fix this.
Fairly easy to test with a lamp and a couple of leads or a cheap test
meter - there should only be power on Pin 7 when the ignition key is in
and turned.

This may or may not be relevant, but I bought an 'aiwa' in car Mp3
player a while back for use in my Omega. This car does not have an
easily acessible switched supply, so I ended up wiring the whole thing
off the unswitched supply; this is not a problem as the unit has two
'off' states, one to be used to when connected in this manner. So
basically are you sure you are actually switching the unit off
correctly when using it with an unswitched supply.
Sorry that's probably not my clearest posting ever :-/

Dee, I emailed you privately about this to
diamond.BIG...@googlemail.com (changing the obvious) did you get it?
Steven.
I haven't tested the relays or anything - and it's night time at the
moment but can tell you there was never a problem with the battery
running flat with the JVC unit installed.
The person from silvercrest's support said maybe the JVC being a more
expensive unit had a timer inside to cut off the power after a set time
when it sensed not being used and it didn't have a flashing LED that
looked like a car alarm.
Also I can tell you that the cigarette light socket only works when the
ignition switch is on, because I use this to power my pocket PC's sat
nav sometimes.
So assuming the the relays are fine which I'm sure they are, what do I
need to do?
I've read the wiring on the Punto's MK2 are non standard, I've been
trying to find a wiring diagram online somewhere to show me what is
supposed to be standard.
Do I need to swap over some wires or get an adapter of some kind?
You need to test to see if power is always on Pin 7. You can do this
with an interior light bulb ( for example) and a wire to Pin 7 and
another to the chassis. If it lights no matter what the ignition switch
position is, then you have found the problem.
If it is always on, then you need to know whether this is by design or
because of a fault.
If it is because of a fault - then you can fix the fault.
Otherwise, you can cut the wire going to Pin 7. Insulate* the end going
back into the harness and connect the end going to Pin 7 to, say, the
wire going to the lighter. I use Scotchbloc type connectors, like these
from Maplin:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/full/JR88V.jpg
They will just clamp on to the existing wire going to the lighter,
without any need to cut it or strip insulation or whatever.
*Make sure that you insulate the cut end really well - a fire in the
dash is not good news. I usually bend the wire back on itself and shrink
some heat-shrink tubing over the end.

all car stereos have 2 positive feeds one for memory.to keep the radio
ststions time etc correct and one for main power...ignition
supply......you must have these 2 round wrong way......most stereos have
but connectors for swapping over these wires yellow to red red to yellow
etc..and some steros have a blabe fuse on rear that can go in 2 diff
positions to do same job....hope this helps! auto electrician of 20yrs!
Sorry went abroad for a while so just left everything to do for when I
come back.
I used a 12V lightbulb to test and when you connect the black wire
with either red wire it always lights up without even having the key
in the ignition - so looks like neither is ignition switch controlled,
may go with the idea to connect it to the same line as the cigerette
lighter, although I have no idea how to get at that particular lead as
the radio goes in the top of the dashboard and the lighter is well
down below.
Any idea what the white, blue, grey and yellow wires in the photo do?
white - speed dependent volume control
blue - reversing light switch
grey - automatic aerial*
yellow - illumination
As your car radio doesn't support all of these, some the pins aren't
connected. Buy a different radio and some or all may be.
