Within a week they have issued a claim notice for £190.77p, with only one
working day's notice before they loot my account, although at least I can
cancel the DD at my bank.
It is supposed to be fixed sub of £15.99p per month (inc. VAT), and no I did
not order a year up front!
A very confused tubbie promised they would ring back - not before they have
the money I bet.
Whatever you do DON'T give a CCCA to BT or its spawn!
R. Mark Clayton
Well on the phone they said it was a mistake.
Then late on Monday they sent an email saying they would take £190.77p the
following day. More phone calls.
Still nothing in writing to say it was wrong, but then snail mail brought a
paper bill for that amount. They had charged for surftime (already paid
through the phone bill) from November 2000 to November 2002!

Nah surely not.
To be honest if the only choice of internet access you have is
BTi/o/whatever then you're probably better off without.
Smurftime was more open to problems than most other stupid ideas
there've been about net access. There are probably loads of people
still paying for it and not knowing what they got for it.

Could go satellite, but still a little financially flaky.
Could go ADSL (but currently ISDN, so expensive).
Can't go NTL as I am on a private road.

We've not got ntl, so I can sympathise there. Do you get their junk
mail spam inviting you to have broadband?
Surely bti isn't your only option as isp.
Yes - you have to pay to go back to anaolog and then again to go to ADSL.
In my particular case we have multiple numbers arrayed on the ISDN so it
would mean ordering extra lines.

No, but it is a big hassle to advise all my contacts, for what might be a
short term gain.

Exactly. This question's always cropping up. I wouldn't bother with a
freebie though. Bigfoot's freebie now severely restricts your mail -
to 25 a day - and they chuck away any excess. That sucks a great deal
if you get a lot of spam or your friends keep sending you viruses. I
imagine other freebies will go the same way.
But it's no great expense to register a domain or two is it? Most
outfits give you free forwarding of e-mail and your Web URL - or you
can fork out another few quid and get it all hosted cleanly. (CGI and
SSI in your Web pages - bliss!) And assuming you have an address book
in your e-mail client, you can just tell EVERYONE - and then keep your
BTi address alive on PAYG to catch stragglers until you get bored with
it. Been through all this before, haven't we? No need to dial-up, just
POP3 your incoming BTi mail. Dial in once when they bitch about you
not using the account.
>I have 4 freebies - each with stmp access - no farting around with
>webmail or even dialing in.
I wasn't meaning ISP's, I just meant forwarding/redirecting services
like bigfoot.

The aipub charter does allow for a FAQ. Had precisely zero votes on it
when I mooted the subject. So if you're volunteering to be the AIPUB
FAQMeister... :) Might stick it on my home page though and just refer

But what are the FAQ?
Q: Are BT really that bad?
A: Yes
Q: Is Mogga's hair really that wild
A: only on Tuesdays
Q: Are the hamsters on full rations?
A: Probably not.

yeah slept well, could have gone back for a nap though after the
school run but had a quick play on the guitar to wake the neighbours

I'd done enough ;-p
Have been playing nice all morning doing a bit of filing and putting
things nicely on shelves.

I don't think velcro would work, no hooks on the end. But in any case,
I have all the kids I know well trained. I just talk to them once
about luminous flesh-eating worms that come out of the walls at night
and from then on they go squealing for Mum whenever they see me. Life

It was sillier than your suggestion.
I don't agree with a lot of things the local lab lot do. They've got a

wicked.
is that waterfall climbing?
I used to climb, and not just out of people's bedroom windows

I think they'd prolly eat each other if they had a chance. One stays
outside even in the depths of winter. I think it wants to make sure
the neighbours rottweilers don't stray into the garden. Other one is a
scrawny half-Siamese and stays indoors asleep even when it's eating.

Just a bit of vertical caving using a wire ladder. I've never had
enough strength in my arms for climbing. Cavers NEVER exert themselves
unless they have to. Apart from lifting beer glasses of course. But
yes, that is a waterfall - in drought conditions. It's only 20 ft, but
not many people can climb it without a ladder as it's overhung
flowstone. I did find a novel route up - right underneath the water -
but I wouldn't recommend it without a lifeline. Couldn't do it these
days as I'm too fat. It gets more "interesting" when it rains.

;-/
thats animals for you. Rosie wanted to go out just as we were heading
out this afternoon so I let her out the catflap and then relocked it.
When we got back she was all sad and meowing outside hehehe
They should know better.

Its as much legs as arm strength I think.
Climbed a waterfall in edale once (I think it was edale) it hadn't
rained for a while and we were probably being silly.
I wouldn't pothole if you paid me. I'd probably not climb anymore
either.
Nah. not now I know I earn more than the bitch who supported my
arch-enemy.
;-)
I put all my angry energy into work and have achieved a fair bit I
think.
>I wouldn't pothole if you paid me.
No risk of that.
It's unbelievably fascinating for the first year or so then it becomes
more of a personal-challenge-adventure thing for a while then it
becomes something you just do and thoroughly enjoy.
That's sex.
hehehe
*blushes*
Climbing was something I probably should never have done. I don't like
heights ... but I found it a challenge.
Potholing just sounds crazy.
Safer than climbing. Nice equable climate. Wonderful scenery. Stale
air, floods, rockfalls and getting bloody stuck. Plus grit in your
wetsuit. :/
Worst of all - losing your Mars bar down a crack.
That's potholing. Ahem.

Grit in your wetsuit sounds horrid.

Well, on a *good* trip you produce a nice protective layer of sloughed
skin, so a moderate amount of grit just gets absorbed into the paste.
However, when the way on happens to be a horizontal squeeze half
filled with mud, the wetsuit collar is liable to act as a scoop which
overwhelms the effect. Last time that happened to me was 150 feet
below a graveyard and the place was full of worms.

I don't know anything Father Ted's anatomy and whether it includes
caves.

Yup.

They looked hungry tbh. Thin and pale. I didn't give them a chance to
find out if they fancied flesh.

Nah they'd be too big. She's got a limit on what she'll catch.

Bluebottle? "You dirty rotten swine, screams, you have deaded me,
shakes fist at Seagoon, dies, rolls about a bit"
She could practice on bats, they're sort of half-way.
