I am currently a BT Internet Openworld customer.

I have a legacy service called "Surftime; Evenings and Weekends", this is
billed to a BT business [Highway] phone line. It is largely used for
business.

I wish to promote it to a product similar to "Anytime", but NOT change UID
or give a CCCA to BTO.

The options seem to be as follows: -

BT Broadband

You have to pay to have ISDN downgrade back to analog and then pay again to
be converted to ADSL. Numbers etc. forming part of the Highway set up
will be lost.

BTO

You can convert to anytime (5/24 access), but you have to give them a
Continuing Credit Card Authority. Payments can not be countermanded. This
represents a risk
of abuse with BTO following two ~50% price rises in the last two years and
their without notice introduction of charges for SMS in January.

BT Connect

You can have a 12/24 access, and they will bill it on a BT business phone
line, but you would have to change your UID to x...@btconnect.com. This
makes a mockery of why I chose to start off with BT many years ago i.e. they
would still be around for years to come. Slightly more expensive.

A N Other over BT lines.

I could transfer to another ISP, but they sometimes go pop, and may not be
any better than BT in terms of customer hostility.

Cable

Can't get cable on my [private] road.

Satellite

Usually needs a landline, expensive, providers have gone bust, performance
likely to degrade as statistical muxing is pushed too far.

Recommendations?

I wouldn't worry about the CCCA with BTOpenworld - they always send a
monthly email telling you exactly what they are going to charge you
and when. You have access to your credit card details online and you
can change them. This is one aspect of BTO's service that does work
well.
