It is the ignorance of a machine, the instinct of a social animal,
that enjoys being negative. Only a thing with no future beyond the
grave is negative about life. A being with even the possibility of an
immortal soul has no love of the automatic negativity that seemingly
justifiably complains about the inevitable sufferings inherent in
having to survive in a physical body. They dress, they comb their
hair, they eat with utensils, they arrange their food to resemble
something pleasant, they work with their minds, in many cases only
exercising the fingers of their bodies in order to make their living,
and yet none of this refinement seems to satisfy them. The least
inconvenience sends them into a rage of dissatisfaction and they
genuinely believe that they do not deserve such inconsiderate
treatment from a universe that they spend so much of their earnest
effort helping to make better. In the psychology of the work events
that make the lower centers want to express displeasure are always
welcomed because such events offer yet another opportunity for a man
to consciously choose what he wants to be in life, whether an
identified, insane machine with no will or a being able to self-
remember and transform the gross manifestations that are native to
the physical world he temporarily resides in. Gradually the balancing
scales of a man's being shift from identification to consciousness,
but only if he struggles against the persuasion of his lower centers
with all that he can bring to bear. But never lie to yourself, if you
are negative see it and admit it. Work with it. A man cannot work
against something that he is buffering and pretending is not there. A
man will only begin to find the motivation to develop the will to
resist believing in the lower centers when he comes to the
understanding that in the higher as yet invisible realm of the soul,
in the world of the astral body, the negativity issuing from the
lower centers does not exist. As long as a man believes that he is
the 'I's that come out of the organic centers then he can make no
significant conscious connection to the impartiality of the soul. The
struggle is between the ego of an animal and the consciousness of the
awakened Self; everyday, every hour, in each moment a man has to
choose before death chooses for him.
