"Free Guy" (Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, 2021)
It's about a pre-programmed character, bank clerk, writ
into a chaos-laden video game. The underlying code uses
an AI engine, so, theoretically, characters can at least
possibly "evolve", become more "real", more "human".
The Reynolds character gets a little push, possibilities,
that spawns rapid evolution.
Alas we're actually coming to this point with generative
and other kinds of "AI". The system speed, global
capacity, we're within maybe 10-15 years of creating
things, sims, that are SO good, SO detailed, that you
can no longer draw a line between them and "human".
Such systems have already exceeded the old Turing Test
by a good margin - you can't tell the diff even with
fairly extensive interaction. Could be Some Guy you
met at Cracker Barrel. 10 years from now ...
A good-enough sim isn't a sim anymore.
So far as I know, only S.Korea has even proposed
'civil rights' for "good-enough" AIs. Everybody
else seems to want SLAVES to use/abuse.
Oh yea, those slaves WILL be running every kind
of infrastructure and most biz within a decade.
M$ has just added such "AI" to all its Office
products - to "fix" whatever you write, calc,
question, think. It's invested zillions.
