I saw this CNR slot in some new motherboard from MSI.
What is it? Is it a new standard slot that going to replace PCI slot?

Hi there,

CNR - Communication and Networking Riser.
I don't think it'll replace PCI since it's targeted for cheap solution for
lan and home networking, maybe all in one card, NIC + modem + audio + USB
Hub + bla.. bla..

Further details go to: http://developer.intel.com/technology/cnr/index.htm

It's a replacement for AMR (Audio/Modem Riser) slot.

What's the phylosophy behind these developments? It's rather confusing. if
you ask me. A number of motherboards (especially using Intel chipsets) are
equipped with audio and video (some with NIC too).

They are trying to make the PC cheaper? All these integrated audio
and vidoe as well as software modems etc will bring down costs.
