I'm a lowly consumer searching for answers:

AMDk-III vs. Pent-III

Which is better?
Any problems I should know about?
Which motherboard is better (either cpu)?

Thanks for your help!! 8>)

The P3 is faster, but the K6-3 is a much better price/performance ratio.
Don't waste 700 bucks on a 550mhz processor that will be worth half that
in 6 months or less.

I have been noticing that the K6-3 is faster in apps than the P III but
slower in games ( only about 5 -7 fps ).

Thanks for all of your responses!!!!!! 8>)

I found some very interesting info at computer shopper (.com) about
AMD vs Intel; "Which CPU is best for Games" under How to Buy Hardware

The results state for gamer's (which i am) Intel is better because of speed,
prices dropping (in May, July & Sept; refer: www.news.com "Intel plans
summmer price cut"
by M.Kanellos) and not all of th games offer compatable versions with 3DNOW.

As far as problems go with AMD i've only found a few which were corrected
though
AMD or third party venders.

If have a AMD-III please let me know how you feel.

I don't really think the pent is faster for games and graphics. I find my
AMD k6-2/300 is quicker in most cases than a friends pent 300. I can
multi-task just as well. With the graphics ( the graphics provisions on the
motherboard w/ the AMD is far superior) and web pages along with a lot of
games, the AMD is a winner. I wouldn't argue with any one about it, it is
just my personal opinion. I do keep my hard drive and folders optimized
with Norton utilities and stay around 94% or better for whatever that is
worth.
