scanner resolution too large?

I'm running a lexmark 1150 all in one, it has a scan resolution of up to
9600 dpi.

Problem is, I cannot scan above 600dpi. The option IS there to select a
higher resolution, but when i try to scan at that resolution it tells me not
enough virtual memory, OR sometimes it says not enough hard drive space.

The photo is small, wallet sized. I have 32 gb FREE space on the drive, and
I even went in and adjusted virtual memory settings as high as they will go
and still get the same message. I know for a fact that a wallet sized photo
scanned at 1200 dpi or greater is not going to be bigger than 32 gb. Any
ideas?

Here is the answer I finally got from Lexmark in case anyone had this issue
and is curious about what is going on here.
