I need a Western Digital Caviar 33100 hard disk drive in good working order
as I have been given one which has stopped working and I think that it is
only the controller card at fault.

I need to get the data back off the drive, so need the controller off of
this working drive.

Hi,
Check the controller PCB for something like '2.1Gb ' on it in white
ink. Several different sized drives use the same controller card. You
can use one from another sized one (at least I could).
You can also try to hook it up as slave if the controller isn't
completely dead.
