SpaceMonger, which will survey the disk fast, says about the same:
164K. I ran a chkdsk scan when I rebooted a few hours ago, it said
just fine and the system appears all healthy.I haven't had any trouble
with Norton, it's reliable. So, what is it that makes the antivirus
see two or three times as many files as there actually are?
Apparently "lost clusters" and notices about when a file was accessed
can be read as files themselves by some programs , but I don't see
that doubling the count.
System is Windows XP SP2 - automatic update disabled but I check for
´MS updates and install most of what fits the system
Browsers: Internet Explorer 8, Opera 10.
Norton System Works 2008
Norton Internet Security 2009
No known security issues.
Forgot too add, in a new Norton scan just two hours ago, the number of
files was up at 410K. What *is* going on?
There are many kinds of Archive files; CAB, ZIP, JAR, CHM, etc.
If I scan 3 CHM files I may get a total count of 30 files beacuse of all the HTML files in
the 3 CHM files.

Most people will say Norton is cr*p .
> I would like to know why Norton gets the file count wrong in scans,
Because it is a piece of shit.
Next question.
