how do install driver

Hi' everyone,
I have downloaded a program called Driver Detective because I have lost my
sound and thought I must need a new driver, but the Realtec sound is not
listed in device manager. The driver is sitting on my desktop, and this
program found a lot of other drivers it said I needed but I don't know how
to get them into where they are supposed to go. Any help appreciated. Sorry
to be so dumb I'm trying to learn.

Hang in there.
First: Which OS are you using?
Second: Who made your motherboard? It maybe the same as your
computer maker if you bought it off the shelf retail.
Third: Try looking the manufacturers web page for a set of
drivers for your model of motherboard or computer system.
