When I click shut down sytem from the start button, my computer is
suppose to just turn off. I had a hard drive crash, and after
installing the new drive and drivers, I noticed the following.

Instead of shutting all the power off, I get the standard orange
letters on black background telling me it is safe to shut down the
system. Other times, I just get the blue clouds picture with the
message waiting to shut down. When that happens, the system never
shuts down.

No matter what, when I turn the systen on the next time, I get the
scandisc routine where it says that a file or files were not closed
properly, or there is a problem with the hard disc. There is never a
problem with the disc, but this is getting very very annoying.

I have checked for viruses with McAffee and Norton, and I did nothing
to the bios after changing to a new hard drive.

Is there anyone out there who actually understands this problem and
can help me?

If so, I really really appreciate it.

I have seen this happen on one of the machines where I work. I have never
had this problem on my notebook or on any of my PC's at home.

I really wish I new what causes this because it looks bad when clients come
into the office and then it happens of course.

DO you have IE4.0 installed, I had this same problem with an early version
of IE4.0, after many un-installs and re-installs the problem seemed to cure
itself.

If you are in a position to unload, and reload a newer verison, then try
that.

Hope this helps.

ML.
