Time change has been detected

[Doing I.T.]

Getting error on machine which I think is a virus. Message comes up every 15
minutes saying "time change has been detected". This has only started
occurring since the turn of the new year.

Any ideas?

Check to determine if your system clock need to be updated.

Since the start of the New Year, eh...?

What could possibly trigger a problem at the start of the first year
of the 3rd Millenium.....?
hmmmm.....

My first guess would be that the fact that it is now 2001 has upset
your computer.

Or it may be checking the time with a server somewhere (computers are
often kept in sync on the network by one central server, so they all
show the same time). Sounds to me like a periodic check with a server
to synchronise the time, the time is found to be way out, and rather
than set it automatically it asks the human what to do. If it was a
few minutes out it'd set it quietly in the background. More than that
and the computer starts asking questions, because something is wrong,
and it don't know what.

Check the time on the machine itself.

Check to see if it's trying to set the time with a server, and check
what time the server thinks it is.

If the times are OK, run a virus scan.

If that doesn't pick up anything, check the other software running in
the background to see if any of that may be checking for the time.
There are varius internet service that allow you to query them for the
correct time, so some software may be polling one of them.
