I have three files that regularly go missing from my PC - only after
logon to the web.
They are boot.ini, NTDLR, and NTdetect.
I have virus software activated and also Black Ice detection. Neither
shows anything irregular.
Anyone know how this may be happening?
Cheers.
Regards,
Dougie.

have you tryed running scandisk on thorough, you could have bad
sectors, some files are put in certin places on the disk, if your disk
is failing you can start to loose files.
this might help, but you may have to use some other diagnostic
programs to test the hard drivre controller.

By "go missing" do you mean that your machine is unbootable (assuming that
it is NT 4) or simply that "you can't see them in explorer"
If its the first - how are you recovering them?
If its the second, you need to enable the "Show all Files" option in
Explorer, though why going on the web would change that I don't know.
If you think you have a virus (your symptoms are not suggestive of that)
then you should download a virus scanner and check your machine with it.
F-Prot is good, but if you are running NTFS partitions, it will only see
your boot sector.
More detail please (though it should probably be marked off topic, as it's
doubtful that you have a virus)
