I'm running AVG 6.0.338 Virus Database 189 on a W2K and use Outlook Express
as my email client.

When I receive an email with the GIBE worm (at the moment several times a
day) AVG doesn't detect it, but if I then stop and restart Outlook Express
AVG detects it.

It seems to me that when Outlook Express is started AVG scans the Inbox (the
folder in which my Outlook Express starts) and detects the worm, but AVG
doesn't scan the email messages as they come in.

Does anyone have any comments on this?

TIA

Have you got the Outlook express plug-in switched on?, and turned on all the
advanced mail options?

HTH

I'm not sure how your response helps me and perhaps I don't understand what
you're communicationg.

If the email is in the outlook express inbox when oe is started then AVG
scans it and detects the virus. The issue is that when oe is running and a
new email message is received then AVG doesn't scan it. Of course if I stop
and start oe after each message is received then AVG detects any virus but
this is not a viable solution.

Do you have the control centre enabled ? as this not only keeps background
scanner running but also the email plug in.Check your
start>run>msconfic>startup>that AVG _CC is ticked..
If it is open avg click help tab>technical support >write down the problem
and send report.
